I dont know how you do it. Id go insane at a desk. I gots to be out n about at work.

Well I used to be an outside operator but you have to move up so I was a control room operator for about 10 years. I liked it better outside.

Yup, and there ain’t any better in this town. Hell I made cardboard boxes for 15 years before this. Standing at that machine for 12 hours was worse than this.

Pay is the only reason I am willing to go through harvest... will only have one free weekend available for the next 6 to 8 weeks. And thats only if I ask for it a few days in advance.
Imma be using it to see my kids one day, and V the other.

 

Yup there is a few starting to pick corn here. I won’t have any ready for three or four weeks but it’s coming. I’ll have some long days until late November probably.

 

How many kids ya got? Do they live close to you?

Who you selling to? For food or biofuel?

From what I understand only 5% of corn is grown for food now days.

 

Have 2. One is going through puberty and has decided not to to talk to me. But my 6 year old still loves me.

Went through a divorce to a woman with a fam who talks alot of shit. Its only a matter of time till my youngest hates me too. But im gon keep doin my best homie.

 

I grow corn and soybeans. We just sell right out of the field to the only mill we have left in town. I don’t have a clue who they sell it too.

 

How do you harvest, with a shredder, or?

 

Don’t pay any attention to that. They all dislike their parents from time to time. They all think they know it all, but when they get a little older most will see they didn’t.

 

Thats what I am hoping for. I miss him. He hasn't spoken to me, and has refused to see me for over 8 months.

 

Combine with corn head for corn and reel for beans

 

Ah, that keeps the mills options open then. A shredder is only used on corn when its being sold for biofuel. ( at least to my understanding )

When you (the dad) are the secondary parent. All you can do is deal with the repercussions of what your ex and fam feeds them. They have more time with them due to the divorce laws and what not. I am just trying to overcome these things.

 

No, we have a biofuel refinery here and they buy shelled corn just like what I sell to the mill. The only drawback from selling to them is they only buy on contract. You might at the beginning of the year say I’ll contract 50,000 bushels to you. But with the unpredictable weather you only harvest 30,000 then you have to buy 20,000 from someone to fill your contract.
