Well I’m back. I’ll need my truck for New Mexico elk again. I got a tag!

I’m going on the trip solo. Meeting my brother there. I’ll have plenty of space. We rented a cabin!

No tent and cook gear saves a ton of space. I’m doing that dec late bowhunt. It’s gonna be cold!

I have an access cab, but the short bed would do just fine for hunting as far as room goes.

A camper shell is a must, at least if you want to keep your gear from being stolen, getting wet, and getting dusty/muddy. The side opening windoors would be nice too so it's easier to reach stuff.

I have the SR5 and have never gotten stuck anywhere even without a locking diff. I do have mud tires on it though, and I would recommend at least a very aggressive All Terrain, or a mild mud tire. Obviously make sure it's a 4x4 not 2wd.

If there was any mod to do other than aggressive tread tires, it would be Sumo Springs. They definitely make the truck more stable when hauling heavy loads like wood or gravel. The truck will be just fine without them for 400 lbs of gear/meat in the bed, but they're under $200 and new u bolts from wheelers off-road are like $40.

That's really all you need for a do-everything hunting truck. I love mine.

The contrast with the black and white with your topper looks great, just don't get blood on it
