It’s a 2001 Prerunner that’s been converted to a 4x4 by the previous owner. I’ve put in about $9K fixing it up. 129Xxx miles, and I’ve only put on around 1K miles so far.

I got the timing belt replaced, new suspension to OME’s. Gasket replaced, new wheels and tires (less than 100 miles on them), new lower control arms, got the rear and front diff’s changed out to 488’s less than 1K miles ago. Various other stuff fixed.

Runs mechanically fine so far, but the only thing is there is some body damage around the car: the side I took a pic of is the worst side. The other side isn’t so bad, but didn’t feel like pulling the car out.

Anyways, not really serious about selling unless the right opportunity comes up, but curious to know if the community can give me a price range for it.

    I am the second owner.

    Thanks!

Edit: sorry trying to figure out how to include pictures that I took.

Sorry to say, but I'm guessing less than the $9,000 you've got into it.

Completely fine, I love the thing.and wasn’t really thinking of selling. May I ask what factors make you give that estimate?

Cab and bed damage, aftermarket tube bumper isn't for everyone, no fenders, etc.

8-10K fetches you a pretty pristine 1st gen in Utah and the market is super hot here for older toyotas. I'd say that would sell for 4-6 here depending on how people take the notion of converting the drivetrain to 4x4.

That looks like a capable 1st gen though! I miss mine badly. :(

Like the above poster said... cab, bed and door damage, missing parts (fenders), the mods that make it look like that truck gets used hard, and above all the PO's DIY 4x4 conversion. Even if it all works great most buyers are going to be leery of that.

You are not selling to the median opinion here. You just need the few outliers that are not as particular.

Do you have 9k worth of receipts?

Not worth the 9k you put into it. 4-6 would be a good estimate.

You could get more than $9k I think, but you'd have to sell it to a specific kind of buyer (someone looking for an outfitted ready-to-go overland/4x4 truck) and that can take time. A lot of guys in that niche are looking to build their own truck so they look for something stock, but there are those that just want a turn-key offroader and/or looking for something already built to a degree. Just need the right buyer is all.

The 4x4 conversion complicates it some only because it's hard to know what level of expertise went into it as a buyer with no knowledge of the truck's history. Honestly I think that's the one thing that would have to bring the price down a bit, because there are plenty of non-converted 4x4s out there competing for a sale too. If 4x4s 1st gens were rare then it would be a different story.

Does it have a manual trans conversion by chance? Because that would help...Toyota didn't make 1st gen double cabs with manuals and a lot of people out there wish they did. Like me, lol

If you want a better estimate.. you have to be more motivated. Even if you dont feel like pulling it out to take pics because pics are a huge factor in selling anything. My guess is around 9k

Oh thanks for the insight. Nope it’s an auto trans. And I have the receipts with all the “upgrades” I made. Anyways, good to know the variables that are going into play. I’ll continue enjoying it once every few months and get rid of it down the line if something good comes my way. Thanks all!
