Thanks Ken and Dale for your input. I was reading their reviews and was also sceptical. Seems tough to find a good dealer and installer as well. I am off tomorrow and will check out Boondocks and Leonard for a Leer 180. I am still torn between Leer and ARE though...and ideas? And Ken, did you ever git the MX with the door entry? I saw your post before when I was browsing around.

Yes, I did. See my current signature.
I like it. Sort of. It has drawbacks like everything.
Hard to try to bring 8 ft long pieces of lumber home with it on the back.
I made a platform, tried it, and took it out. We sleep on the bed, and move gear to the cab.
The reason I took the platform out was it was too hard to get in and out through the walkin door with a platform.
We downsized what we bring and had plenty of room and plenty of stuff. All good.
I keep telling myself I would sell it if someone wanted it. I would get a pop up cab over camper.

Both Leer and ARE do not deal directly with a customer. You need to go through an authorized dealer.
I would get a few quotes if I was to do it again. And then show each dealer what the other dealer quoted. May be too rude, but, there is no set pricing, just what the dealer says it is. I got a settlement from VW and bought the cap.

Thanks Ken. Can't see your signature for some reason but saw lots online and for your reasons mentioned I decided against it. I already have a platform built which I might have to modify since I have a short bed and build like a 1 foot flip out to gain more leg room but for this I need to have the tailgate down...oh well..lol. I thought about the pop up as well..mmhhh. And sales people in those places are usually slick like lawyers a d I do not care what I tell them as long as it is legit information...

Also check on the Century brand, it's made by Leer but it's a cheaper cousin to it. If price is your concern find a dealer who sells Ranch brand shells they are pretty good quality and are usually cheaper than all of the others. Warranties vary from manufacturer to manufacturer as well, you will pay more for lifetime warranties or you can get some with lesser warranties for a cheaper price. It will come down to your budget and how long you want to own your current truck. If you've ever sold a used camper shell you will likely only get between 25-50% of what you paid for a new one. Good luck with your search and if you have any more questions just ask, we will do our best to help you out.

Thank you all so so much. Don't I love TW for all the great people on here.
So drove to Leonard, Leer dealer, Jim Campen, ARE dealer, Rhinoliner, Rach dealer and lastly Boondocks, ARE and Century dealer. Omg what a difference of prize and more importantly for me, customer service.
Leonard was ok for customer service but they quoted me the Leer 180 with all the oprions I wanted for $3035. Absolutely crazy expensive. Jom Campen was terrible overall and quoted ARE MX with almost same oprions for $2550. Rhinoliner was just ok with customer service but Ranch do not offer higher than truck cap shells. Boondock was amazing and I will certainly go with them and both, the ARE and Century quote, came within $30 difference from each other around $2200. Now I have to make my mind up which one it should be...

Which one supports more weight up top? You know, in case you decide to put a tent or something up there.

I've never put more than a few pieces of lumber on top of my camper shell (w/ Yakima rack), but I sure do love having the rack.

Boondocks also sells used caps as well, you might ask them if they have one, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Looked at the used ones and no fit for my truck. Pulled the trigger on a Century High C, driver side windoor and passenger side pet screen slider. Cap window slider and fold down as well. Coupon was available for free carpet liner of shell. $ 2400 out of door.

Almost like mine, I don't have carpet or the high top. I wish I could have the taller top though but I bought mine used and it came with the Yakima tracks and cross bars. The price was right at the time I bought it though and it does what I need for.

It's just a sliding window with a screen behind the part that opens.

No it's not. Some of the pet screens are heavy duty mesh and some just use regular window screen mesh and call it a pet screen.
