I doubt it's still in an impound lot.

Hate to say it but around here if a salvage yard can't get a title, it's ordered crushed.

Wouldn't it go on record as having a junk/salvage title?

If that's the case, it pisses me off even more than the idea of it sitting for a decade. My dad took great pride in keeping the Pathy maintained and it looked new when it was 10 years old...

Buy it back for a few hundred bucks, get it running and roadworthy, and use as a winter beater...

The thing is that the title comes back as clear and there's no record of any junk/salvage/export title...

This is exactly why if I ever sell my Tacoma, I will sell it to somebody who is paying in cash and not financing it!

A few additions to make me feel cool.
If it is crushed it is not reported on the title. If it is out there sitting that long does not bode well for it being in any condition to be worth the investment.

It may have been parted then.
At least then it would have died so others may live.

If it hasn't been registered in several years, it's probably been scrapped. You don't usually see it re-registered with a scrap title or certificate of destruction unless it goes to auction or wholesale, if it goes straight to the junkyard the title never gets updated. This is from my experience with junking cars.

I tried to chase down my father's early 80's Nissan 200SX. It was imported into Mexico in the late 90's and it was never seen again.

    What a shame...

That truck was a bit dented up and somewhat rusty, but it ran and drove great! A/C was ICE COLD and everything worked!

Why would it go to the junkyard instead of back to the dealer that financed it? If it's in one piece and there's no title, I could use the "Vermont loophole"...

Best bet is to buy a cool project and make new memories! Something a lot cooler than a pathfinder!

It (may) have went to the junkyard because it's a mass produced SUV that's almost 25 years old that frankly isn't worth much. Vehicles that don't sell at auction or wholesale are junked, because they have little to no value. A dealership or holding company doesn't want a car that won't sell.

I live by a Copart and Mannheim hub and I see it all the time. Perfectly good cars that don't sell and are stacked on top of each other on a flatbed and sent to the scrapper.
