I remember watching a '68 390 GT Mustang just like 'Bullitt' rot to the ground in a junkyard, even the VIN tag rusted away.

If it was repossessed, then why would you give it back?

It doesn't seem logical to crush a running and driving 4x4...

This is why I hate the "Buy Here Pay Here" industry!

A few additions to make me feel cool.
So people will continue to pay for there shit! If they just said "fuck, keep it" No one would pay for the POS they are upside down on. Best to just move on from this one. It's like not throwing away old worn out shoes because of the miles you traveled in them.

If the bank forecloses on my house and the bank is going to tear it down, they're not going to give the physical home back to the me out of pity because it's still perfectly fine.

This is just how the car industry works. It has nothing to do with "Buy Here Pay Here". If a car is at the end of its useable lifespan, it goes to either an auction or directly to the junkyard. To be frank with you, a 25 year old mass produced econobox SUV doesn't have much value in the eyes of dealers or wholesalers. It's cheaper to junk it than to waste time on it over a more valuable vehicle.

The average life expectancy of a car is 8 years, or 150,000 miles. It can go up to 15 years or 300,000 miles according to www.consumerreports.org - that Pathfinder is nearing 25 years old, or 10 years above the average car life expectancy. At this age, the car has little to no value to any reseller or wholesaler and simply becomes a burden on their stock.

CarMax will buy any car, sure. But any car outside 15 years old (2004 model year) gets sent straight to auction, in which if it doesn't sell gets scrapped. Most consumers aren't actively seeking a 25 year old SUV, they want something new and modern.

Tacomas are generally exempt from this nonsense, correct?

Also, the dealer where I used to work detailing cars would put older vehicles on the lot if they were in good enough condition and/or had low miles. These included a 1998 Mercedes E320 with like 26K original miles (in 2018). On the other hand, the same dealer got a 2004-2006 Ford Freestar minivan with 160K miles on a trade, deemed it to be in decent condition, had it detailed, and put it on the lot.

And it had the "Off-road package", which included the black trim and fender flares you see, beefed-up suspension, and a limited-slip rear differential. It also had heated leather seats and a digital compass! In 13 years of ownership (1996-2009), the A/C had to be recharged once in 2003 and it didn't give us any serious problems. It failed inspection in 2007 because of a hole in the muffler, which my dad replaced.

We own a 2000 Mercedes-Benz E320, they still have relatively strong resale value despite its age. It is a Mercedes, after all. 26k miles is also nothing in the grand scheme of things. That car still has value, therefore the dealer has incentive to keep it on the lot. 2006 is still within the average 15 year life expectancy of a vehicle, which is why it still has value.

Toyota bought back any pre 2001 with a rusty frame and crushed it. No frame replace when all that mess started.

I'm looking toward the future. My hope is to one day have enough money to buy a 4x4 Tacoma or even a Tundra, and keep my current Tacoma. I really do not want to sell my truck.

If you look hard enough you might be able to see it in this pile of vehicles. Should buff out.

That Pathfinder would've been on a hell of a journey if it ended up in Europe. I see a European Union license plate.
