Falken Wildpeaks, to wait or buy now?

How the hell are wildpeaks so cheap compared to KO2s?!

 

Peeps are willing to pay $$$$ for BFGs.

 

I ordered these on Amazon less than 2 weeks ago. Process went fairly smoothly. I got them shipped to a sears auto center for install (a feature offered by Amazon) and they wouldn't mount them claiming they were the wrong size. I picked the tires up there, drove to Firestone and didn't have a problem. Called Amazon and they gave me a hefty gift card for my troubles.

Edit: Paid $126 a tire. Just checked and the price is up to $142

 

Jeez I bought two sets of BFGs in the last 8 months and they were 1.1k - 1.2k a set and I've never batted an eye for the Falkens lol.

 

There are many great tires out there. I was through this dance with car and m/c tires also. Ratings / reveiws then cost descide for me.

I liked the design of BFGs since I was a teenager but will likely never run them.

Just in case, the reviews / rating on TireRack are top notch, IMHO.

Yeah same here, but I've always chosen to ignore the Falkens because their design was so bland.

I feel like I'm in the same situation as you for the Toyo R/Ts except that they cost a butt load of cash for it and I'm not sure if I can justify that

 

Got theses on Amazon about a month ago came in like 2 days no issues and they balanced great my second set.

 

Go with Falken and be happy. 4000 miles in on them now, and they are awesome.

 

That's good to know! I just bought a set of 4 285/75/16s from Amazon and they said they'll be here Thursday. Was surprised that shipping was free and that quick for something that heavy.

 

In person I think the AT3W looks just as good as a KO2 if not better. KO2 has a cool sidewall but the same boring ass tread for about the last 40 years. Looks aside I would go with the Falken because it comes in a SL that saves a whopping 10lbs over the KO2.

I was about to pull the trigger on these last year but Goodyear had some huge rebates so I scored my Duratracs for about the same price. With all the highway driving I'm doing now I thinking about making the swap.

 

I would go E rated, I have the SL now and they will be at the wear bars at 27-30k miles at current rate. The tires Ride great, off-road, snow,rain, etc they’re nice but the tread wears fast. SL are 14/32 and E are 18/32 also. Going E rated in few days. Seen good things of them wearing well. Like them more than ko2, just not the tread life.

 

I'm bouncing between the Yoko AT and the Wildpeaks. The one thing hanging me up is the weight of the Falkens. They're a few pounds heavier in SL.

 

$123.68 at Walmart and they ship to store for free. I've gotten some great deals at Walmart.com on tires doing this. Walmart is very weird about putting larger than stock sizes on your truck though. Sometimes they will do it and sometimes they won't it really depends on the store. The last time I had to have the automotive dept manager sign off on it. Did that over the weekend, installed for $88 with road hazard.

Had 2000 miles on the stock tires, sold them for $250

 

So these have s 55k mile warranty. You should be getting a pretty good prorated discount on your next set.

Also the SL use a silica compound which if I understand correctly improves tread wear, winter and wet driving. That’s why they can offer the same warranty on a shallower tread. The SL is also about $25 a tire cheaper so even if they don’t last as long they are 15-20% cheaper to start.

 

Definitely go with the 255/80R17. I just got these exact tires in that size installed on Thursday. I had Discount Tire match Walmart’s online price of $175.56 per tire. You can’t beat that for a 33” tire. They ride so quiet and smooth. They are not as “skinny” as people make them out to be.

 

Got a set over this past weekend and with install and mount came out to be $625 with Discount Tire. I did have them remove my stock Goodyear off my TRD OR wheels so I can try reselling them and recouping the cost and reuse the OEM TPMS. Only went with a 265/75-16 but now might want something bigger but we will see after my Eibach lift arrives. And oh I should be getting 10% back from Discount Tires.

So far I've been very happy with these tires and hopefully my MPG evens out after a week or so. Should I be worried that two of my tires are made from Thailand but the other two are from USA. Really wish they gave me all USA tires witch kinda make sense since you want it all from the same batch.
