I shoot for changing my oil every 5k, and here is why:

    1. Easy to remember, every 5k rotate the tires change the oil.

    2. DIY is cheap. Basically the difference between 5k changes and 10k changes for me is $600 over 200,000 miles. It'll probably take me 13 years to drive that many miles.

    3. Flexibility. If shits busy and I can't get around to changing the oil, no big deal just push it to 10k.

    4. Frankly I enjoy it. Getting under the truck, taking a look at everything, peace of mind knowing the routine maintenance is done properly.

At the end of the day, is 5k necessary? Not at all, unless you meet the severe service definition. I've gone 10k between changes, and I'm sure I will in the future too. But since it's cheap, easy, I like doing it and I like the buffer it gives me, I'll continue to aim for every 5k.

I did the first change @ 3,980 miles. Send the sample to Blackstone. Have changed @ even 10k intervals since.

@AZF1504x4 Don't stop now, keep doing random Internet searches to explain how much Toyota sucks to us.

No no. It’s about how much engineers haven’t contributed to better and safer vehicles over the years. And his examples aren’t proving that whatsoever

Especially if they work for Hoover or Dyson. That may very well be what they specialize in!

No, dumbass owners (accel) and dumbass business people (airbag CEO who killed himself for coverup).
    Is that all you got?
Geez I have hundreds of examples where engineers fucked up. I have dozens where I fucked up. Thank God mine didn't result in loss or injury and were caught.in R&D.
Nobody is perfect. But, say you have one chance to design and build something that will save your life... you gonna pick an accountant or a doctor or a landscaper? Or a mechanic to design and build a machine that will keep you alive?

Engineers do it every damn day. Your truck is a perfect example. Pretty sure an engine disassembler didn't FEA and 3D model your Ford's crumple zones...
