Just depends on what the damage is. If it is just a ring lands and you had a thick enough oil, the cylinder wall may be just fine. Had that myself. Swapped in a new piston from Toyota and done.

If the cylinder wall is good, but you want to add internals, JE or CP pistons, then BC or Molnar rods. Then head studs and head gaskets. Done. Cheap.

 

it sounds cheap if you can do it yourself. me, not so much.

Which tune were you running?

 

Can you do an engine swap of a different style engine by yourself? Turn key?

 

i could probably swap a lawnmower engine.

 

Have you guys considered a ceramic coat? They don't protect against off-road scratching, but they make daily grime cleanup and shine maintenance MUCH easier.

 

This is like 2 trucks in the last 30 days now? Not good at all. And @o0opackersfano0o doesn’t even drive his truck that much.

 

I coated my truck. Freaking love it. The dirt doesn’t stick to it as easy as before. We will see how long it lasts.

 

I have but I have the feeling that I may be too late in trying to apply it as I already have scratches, paint chips from rocks and the road as well as random clear flake offs due to a few door dings.

 

i havent heard of such a thing. id consider it for sure.

 

scratches, polish. chips, touch up paint. then paintless dent removal.

 

Its never too late. It will require polishing the paint as it will lock in any defects underneath the coating. When I did mine I didn’t get everything out just a light one step polish to get most of it. Then 7 days later I went to big bear and installed some new pin-striping because why not.

 

I was actually considering purchasing an airbursh and a small pint of single stage OE paint mixed with clear for touch ups, I hear they do really well in blending to the current paint after sanding the area smooth with minimal observance of paint over on the affected area after.

My Shelby and the wife's BMW are both coated - same experience as yours. Did the wheels and calipers, making brake dust cleanup a breeze! They were both done last year, so can't confirm long-term results either.

Haven't taken the plunge on my Tacoma, but am thinking seriously about it.

You might be surprised as how many imperfections can be corrected. The key is preparation before coating, since you're "sealing-in" the paint's condition when the coating is applied. We corrected and coated my son's (pretty rough) white '01 while he was home for the summer. I can't claim it looks new, but it shines and beads water REALLY well. The biggest benefit for "older" vehicles is probably how much easier maintenance becomes.

FWIW, I'd recommend it. Like I said, your truck may not look new but, assuming it's corrected before application, it will look a lot better and maintenance will be much easier.

That's one option, though I have no experience with it.

I went with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra topped with EXO on our cars, and Adam's on my son's truck.

Even if you don't go with a full-blown ceramic coating, you might consider something like Adam's Ceramic Spray Coating - (relatively) cheap and very easy to use!

 

My buddy does it on the side. Ceramic is something you need to maintain and a good thing to do. However, the new and better thing he’s doing is sio2 coating. It’s a 12 month protection on the paint. He uses extremely expensive products that carry a good deal of silica in them. Prior to coating regardless of which one he’s doing. He does paint correction on the vehicle involving like a 4-5 step process of deconing the paint, striping the surface of all contaminants, then the wax, deconing it again and rewaxing and sealing......then the coating. It’s an 8 hour or so process........he’s making a killing and it ain’t cheap......

 

Yeah, I didn’t bother getting them all out before the coating, realistically a little 3000 grit wet sanding would take care of most if not all of them, then a quick polisher would fix that but again, why take them out if I am just going to reinstall them lol.

Only a year? That doesn’t seem right but I haven’t used the coatings you have. You should try using an iron remover and a clay bar to see if you can restore it.
In reality most consumer based ceramics are resin based, so you should use an sio2 spray every now and then to replenish the coating’s top coat.

I am expecting 2-3 years on my coating.
