I'm a big fan of Toyota and GM.

The 5.3L and the 6.2L GM engines are solid. The old 4 speed transmissions were trash, but the new 6 speeds (2012+) are solid.

My previous 3 trucks were a 2014 Tundra 5.7L, a 2003 Silverado 5.3L and a 2005 Silverado HD 6.0L. All of these trucks including my current Tacoma were reliable. The 2003 Silverado had a AC/heater actuator issue ($180). The 2014 Tundra's headunit failed under warranty ($1400). Had no problems with my 2005 Silverado.

My Tacoma had a starting/fuse issue that was resolved under warranty and these transmissions are pretty special.

My wife drives a 2017 Suburban with the 5.3L and we haven't had one issue with it.

I wouldn't hesitate purchasing a new Silverado. I'd be happy with a LT Trailboss 5.3L.

People want the PRO "stuff" and mod it, but in the end it is still not worth more than the original price of an OR. Mods don't do anything for resale. The PRO will keep resale.

If you are saying that a PRO will have a higher dollar amount on trade in value over the OR I would say you are correct, but that is because a PRO is $10k more on the initial investment. If you are saying that the percentage of depreciation is higher on a OR with upgraded suspension, wheels, and tires over a PRO I would have to disagree with you. I think when it comes to Tacomas you will always get out what you put into it. Why else would the dealer have a "factory modified" OR sporting a lift, wheels, and tires parked right next to a PRO??

Exactly why I purchased a Pro (negotiated a $5k discount under MSRP). The unique Fox suspension is covered under the factory warranty and was designed, engineered and durability tested by Toyota, not some aftermarket company.

I quit modifying my vehicles over 10 years ago. You get zero ROI and the aftermarket parts are never up to Toyota’s high quality standards.

Considering my suspension is a much heavier duty version made by the same company that came stock on my truck I would beg to differ. Toyota doesn’t make their trucks out of magic parts. They are built to meet a price point. Aftermarket parts can meet whatever quality price point the consumer is willing to pay.

I disagree too. I would say that this blows away the base Fox that is on the PRO. Sure you can buy better Fox items for the Tacoma. I would/will buy King for my money.

Well, I bought the 2019 Silverado Z71 LTZ Texas Edition for $53k Wow this thing blows away the Tacoma PRO. 420 HP, 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. Getting the 4 inch lift. The technology is beyond the Tacoma. The 2019 redesign is so much better than the 2018 Silverado, which I really don't like.

I love this truck. If you drove the 6.2L, you would never buy a Tacoma.

This ^ I've had 9 Tacomas, I wandered once in 2014 trading my 2011 Taco for a Z71, 4 months later I realized my terrible mistake and took a bath come trade in, paid $35k after rebates for the loaded Z71, 4 months later was only worth $28k trade in for my 2015 Taco. Never again.

Why does it have a regular wire antenna and a shark fin? And what idiot decided that was the best place to mount that shark fin?

I guarantee you buy a $35k Tacoma and trade it in in 4 months, they will give you about $28k. It is trading it in too soon that you take the hit. Wait 4 years for the depreciation to catch up and you would get a get return.

Well, I actually ask them to mount it there so I can reach out and cover it up if I wanted to.

Couldn’t be more wrong. Bought my 2019 Cement for $36.5k in Dec, traded it for my 19 Sport and got $35k trade in May. Bought my 17 TRD OR without JBL in Nov 16, paid $34k, traded it for my 17 OR with JBL 8 months later for $32k. Not my first rodeo bud. These trucks hold their value. Chevys definitely do not, even Rams have higher resale.

I paid $33k for my current OR and just received a $32k trade in value towards a 2020 I was thinking of moving to. So ya, you’re wrong about resale value between the two.

Doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice in truck for your needs but don’t kid yourself which one will hold its value better.

I am not wrong that the Z71 blows away the Tacoma in all respects. It has more horsepower, 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, tows way more, more room, better stereo, doesn't surge, no driveline vibration and it gets 24mpg on the highway. No Tacoma is going to do that.
