Anytime I pull any driveshaft out for u-joints I get the machine shop to do it and always rebalance. Many will disagree but even my front was balanced as I have done lots of long rough gravel dirt roads in 4Hi so why not make sure it does not vibrate and mess the case bearings up. Napa usually can do them. Most larger areas have a driveline specialty shop that does the diffs, all bearings, xfer cases and driveshafts and these are your best friend if you don't want to do it yourself.

does anyone know if it’s worth rebuilding the front shaft with new slicer u joints and balance

or verify no play and leave it be

because being 2Hi most of the time, front shaft has probably spun way less miles given 4x is used fraction of the time

vs main rear propshaft spinning at all times

I just threw some new joints in my front shaft, because the the little rubber below the caps was cracked and missing in spots. I did not rebalance, but I don’t run 4x4 at high speeds , if I did I’d have it balanced checked. I’d say check for play, grease, and send it

    guess I’ll look at it
Yeah that’s what I’m curious about if just sitting there from age had any bad effects regardless of spinning miles

I’ll ask driveshaft shop what they recommend

if there is rubber and plastic I’m sure it’s screwed.
4x is not the smoothest and could be due to front shaft. Not trying to damage a freshly regeared diff by skimping on a shaft connected to it that really would be pretty cheap to refresh.
