And he'd bring that mid-pack Team all the way to the front... You just watch. Roush racing isn't no slouch. They've just been settling last couple of years with very shity drivers. Look at the greats that came from that stable... Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, heck even Jeff Burton to an extent. And if you remember they also have their bad judges of talent... Like Chad Little, Johnny Benson, Greg Biffle.

I wouldn't call Biffle a slouch. He had 56 wins over the top three series with Roush (19 Cup, 20 Xfinity, 17 Trucks), and 36 poles (13, 14, 12, respectively). He was a championship contender in Cup during those peak Roush years, leading the points several times through the years and finishing second in '05. He was a truck and Busch series champion. He delivered Jack a ton of trophies, a pair of NASCAR championships, and most importantly, his loyalty. After all this, Jack hung him out to dry.

At this point in the game, Benson is a better driver than Matt D. Matt has zero wins in Xfinity and Cup while Benson gathered 1 Cup, 3 Busch, and 14 Truck wins. Benson's 3 years at Roush were arguably his worst in Cup. He also pulled in 1 truck championship (perhaps in the truck series' most competitive era) and 2 Busch championships (in an era when Earnhardt and Martin were regularly running in Busch).

Matty D to the woods brothers. Menard hung it up. Nice landing spot if they can get the team consistent.

This will be great. I believe there will be a learning curve with the Woods' way of operating. Hopefully they'll put a motivated crew behind Matt. The Penske affiliation, solid backing from Ford and Menard put Matt in a spot he's never been. Hopefully he'll perform in the #21. If not, time to kick bricks. Aside from two decent Bristol runs and a decent Daytona 500 run, Matt has never shown any promise as a competitive driver.

Thing about DiBenedetto is he’s improved with every organization he’s come to. He’s climbing the ladder the right way, with little to no sponsorship. He was 27th last year with GoFas, is 22nd so far with Leavine (and well within striking distance of 21st place if he keeps up the good runs) and the Wood Brothers are currently in 19th, so one could suggest he’ll at least be as good as their current driver if not better next year.

Only thing I will hate is that Toyota has him in a Tacoma pro right now, next year will probably be a mustang but hopefully he gets first dibs on a bronco when it drops...lol. Raptor would be nice, I guess...lol

Given the struggles of other mid-tier teams, I fully expect him to be challenging for 11-16 place finishes on the weekly next year. Given Ford's Superspeedway package and his February experience, he'll be a legit contender at Daytona next Winter.

6 top 10's including 3 top 5s in the last ten races. I agree, no promise as a competitive driver.

After his breakout 1986 season, they said Bobby Hillin Jr was going to be a star, too. Only time will tell. :der:

I got beat to it. This is awesome... 1: Paul Menard finally figured out he wasnt a race car driver... 2: a great driver takes over a great legendary team.

    21 FTW!!!

RCR hasnt been top notch since Dale Sr. drove. It's like Mr Childress stopped caring after that.

I mean even Robbie Gordon was competitive in that era RCR equipment. Then... nosedive.

You see what Harvick did the year after moving to SHR.

Hell... Newman just took Roush equipment to the playoffs... so proof right there it isn't the drivers.

Stinks for Hemric. He was a good driver in subpar equipment. I hope he lands somewhere solid. I think Reddick is going to tear up some equipment next year. He has a kid on the way and the reality of that is going to hit him like a ton of bricks, much like it did Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, and Denny Hamlin. Strangely, Joey Logano's kid was born last year and he went on to win the championship. So I guess it doesn't always hinder driver performance.

Update: Turns out, Brad, Kyle, and Denny all got their girlfriends pregnant while Joey was married when they got pregnant. Perhaps this explains their (Brad, Kyle, Denny) performance slumps that coincided with their pregnancies?

Yep, which reinforces the unintended point of my post. Those guys who were married when they had their kids with their wives and not their girlfriends had peak years.
