    Total newb when it comes to hatchets and axes, but would like something so I can hone my bushcrafting skills and to have in the backcountry. My budget would be about $150 and I’d like something that is quality and will last a while. What should I look for in a quality hatchet and what can I expect in my price range? Thanks!

    Gransfors Bruks man, all the way! Small Forest Axe has 18" handle and 1.5lb head. It's great for things big and small. I'm partial to them, but there are many great axes out there! Council Tools Velvecut is another great bushcrafting axe.

    X2 on this response. However, I would say if you can, put your hands on them.
    I am a bit of a husky lumberjack, and for that reason the small forest axe feels like a long hatchet to me. So I prefer a slightly longer axe for a do it all. Now go put some in your hands. You got the right handy loot for an awesome axe.
