Fidgeting with stuff is why I need a manual transmission, drove an auto rental for a week or so, there is so much to screw with when you have a free hand and are bored driving

Hey! That's not what I was saying. Just that we adapt and get better with time.

For a while, I had two bikes. One was reverse / GP shift and one could not be converted, as well as riding a friend's standard shifts from time to time. There was a while when I would hose up shifts, but as the character of each bike got engrained, it stopped being an issue.

In the end,We have newbs and blue hairs confusing the gas and brakes ATs.

My 2012 Chevy Cruze has R next to 1 as well but to go into R, you have you lift a ring below the knob. I love this method. Even though I haven't gone into R accidentally, it's a really hard push to the left to go to R.. why not deploy this lift ring and have everything goes easily?

This, couple with clutch engagement point like 100 ft in the air, has me feeling that Toyota manual is the worst I have ever driven (Jeep, Chevy, Porsche, Mits, Honda, Nissan).

I failed to quote, but my statement was the 91,000 no issue comment. I sometimes screw up, and am honestly shocked that Toyota didn’t mistake proof this manual transmission.

Our Subaru has 85k on it, and doesn’t shift as smooth as it once did, then hop in the taco and it’s easy to push through the gate and not realize it, but again I’m not perfect.

I can’t believe with the tension of the reverse detent spring in the Tacoma anyone is shifting into reverse when going for first.
Unless mine is stronger than usual.....or I’m week?

Exactly. The 'hard' lockout to reverse is good.

I always leave my vehicle in gear (1st or reverse) and when I am about to start again, I always follow a sequence that I have done in my previous M/T, which is clutch, battery, neutral, ignition on.

Fact of the matter, it can and does happen. Again, I’m shocked that Toyota, did not mistake proof this.

Naw, then you have to eat some big ass breakfasts.
Just ADHD, and sometimes get moving too fast. Sometimes You just to move fast and don’t think about what your doing. Other days, I am fully in tune and have no issue at all.

easy to do with a heavy knob and a quick shift. therein lies the potential issue. i found it twice in 3 years. but that knob i used is like 1.4lbs.

Ive done this once or twice over the past year. Never during concious or relaxed driving but in a situation of stress...i.e a three point turn with traffic coming, not that I was at risk of a collision but I tried to excute the turn quickly to not inconvience the other cars. I much prefer the phsyical lockout collar on my FR-S.

I have owned a few VW's, its not hard really hard to go back and forth between 1st and Reverse, you get the hang of pushing down on the shifter.

The 74 VW Thing we have has a weird lockout. You push down on the shifter and pull towards you then back

Manual all the way. Looking for a 2020 the same way. Not as fun as the vette but hey, it's a truck. That being said, when I go heavy hauling mode with my F250, I often am searching for the phantom clutch that isn't there.

The whole point of getting a Tacoma over other trucks is cause it’s offered in Manual from factory.
    Also, frontier looks ugly.
