All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
After looking at your wheels and tires. This makes me want to do that the same to my ‘76 fj40.
That oem gray FJ40 Steelie with those pizza cutters.
    Classic.

It currently has 35x12.50s on it know.
But they are overkill for something that is not a heavy wheeler.

My last tires were Cooper ST Maxx’s, 235/85r16. They rode really stiff, even aired down. It’s the nature of the beast with E rated tires on a small truck. Or so I thought. These Yokohamas ride a lot smoother so far.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up switching out my ST Maxx's for some Cooper AT3 XLT's. They ride much better as well and are pretty quiet on the HWY. They seem to do well offroad so far. I'm looking forward to trying them out in some snow this winter. I really like these Geolander's but I had to convince myself that a MT was overkill for my truck right now.

I thought the same, and then I got stuck at the top of Hawk Mtn in thick black mud that got me locked in good.

Now I was pulling a SS offroad trailer that had some weight. But I quickly learned that my brief period with ATs on my offroad rig is not gonna happen. Well not with pulling my trailer anyways.

I hadn't been in this thread for a while...I just scrolled up and realized that you put these on in a 255/85/16. I didn't even realize they starting making them in this size. Had I waited a couple more months, I might have gone for that exact same tire. 55lbs is pretty good for a MT. That's almost 5lbs lighter than the ST Maxx in the same 255.

What gears did you go with? 4.88?

Yes, 4:88’s. For years I swore 235’s with the stock 4:30 gears were perfect. Then a dude who I sold a set of 4Runner wheels gave me a bitchin’ deal on a new set of 4:88’s and suddenly I was all about it.

I needed new tires anyway so when these Yokohamas came out in a 255, it was love at first sight.

The ST Maxx’s did last a long time but rode like granite Flintstones wheels. These Yokohamas ride better at 35 PSI than the Coopers did at 20. I’m even gonna get a little crazy and try them at 38 or 40 PSI for street driving.

Nice man! I loved the 4.88's with 33/10.5/15 I had on my last first gen. It's a really good combo for the 4cyl motor. I'll be interested to hear how to like these tires in that size longer term. I have a feeling that's going to end up being a very popular tire for the pizza cutter guys.

I should have asked in the last post. What are your initial impressions on these? I have been contemplating purchasing these or the Cooper Evolution M/T in a 265/75/16.

I've only had them for about 100 miles but I like them so far. I came from 265/75/16 Falken Wildpeaks. They are pretty quiet for a MT. I've never personally owned an MT before but I have driven in a truck that has and they were definitely quieter than from what I remembered. I love how aggressive they look. Walmart had them for a killer deal but I reached out to Discount Tire Direct because they've given me amazing customer service before in the past. They priced matched and got them to me quickly.

Walmart had the lowest price I found too. I had it price matched from Discount Tire as well, I just was waiting on my lift to arrive before purchasing the tires. I appreciate the info!

No worries. I ran 265/75/16 on some VTX -12 offset for a while with minor rubbing. Pretty much just had to remove the mud flaps.

We have the same wheels. I see you are on Kings though. I am using the Eibach lift so the 265s should fit without a problem.

Debating this same size tire right now and already have those exact wheels on my 1st gen. Currently running 285/70R17 and thinking of going to the 1" taller and a little skinnier version, can you post some other pics from front/back to show just how skinny they are on the SCS wheels?

    Thanks!

You looking for 285/75/17 then? If so that’s what I’m running.
