Anyone notice this sort of smell in their 3rd Gens? To me, it smells the most like diesel exhaust...you know, that acrid, oily type of smell?

During the summer, car interiors get pretty hot here in the Southwest during the day and remain warm even at night in the garage as the garage itself remains 90-100 degrees. That may have something to do with it, as the plastics are "cooking off" something fierce? If I leave the windows up for the night, I'm punched in the nose with this smell upon opening the door and getting in.

Furthermore, if I'm cruising for an extended period of time with the A/C on, it gets to the point were I get the odor lodged into my nostrils and taste buds. Call me crazy, but it's as if I've become saturated with the smell! I have to turn the A/C off for a bit, or by the time it happens, I'm finally pulling into the driveway. (Compounding this issue is "dryness", as ambient humidity is already very low (5%). The A/C is going to dry the air even more).

I have the OEM all-weather mats (front and back), and this could be a suspect of the odor. I'm pulling them out after posting this thread.

My best guess those are VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) gassing off from plastic and PVC parts in the interior. If it’s new I’d try pretty hard not to breathe them. They cause all sorts of bad things, though at this point in the world so does air, water, and most food... researching plastics and micro beads will really make you worry. Sigh, I guess not one of us is gonna escape this world alive. Though it is sad (tangent over).

My truck routinely hits 140*-150* in the summer. Still has new car smell.

Sounds like something is burning that shouldn't be.
