Haven't been on TW and this thread in awhile, but I would appreciate some feedback from some knowledgable people on this thread!! Especially the last page of it.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-happened-transmission.625928/page-7#post-21524289

What happened was I was driving to school in Ohio from Alexandria, and in the mountains of WV/MD, I was going up a hill and suddenly I had this really loud windy noise with some engine revs. I let everything cool off for a bit in case something was overheating, but it was never the same.

Fast forward a few weeks to today, I got a call from the dealership up here saying that the issue is the clutch fan being messed up. They said they think its from mud being caked in it and not getting cleaned out sufficiently.

I might've conflated normal engine revs and the fan/wind noise from the clutch fan with unusual engine revs and the trans being messed up.

To anyone knowledgable, Id appreciate your feedback in that thread cough cough @EatSleepTacos cough cough

I honestly have no idea. If that was broken, I could see it causing weird noises. I would just wait and see how the truck drives tomorrow and go from there.

Better than the #nickfab way which would be to just ignore any signs of a problem until something catastrophic breaks

Its better #ethanfab where you bug everyone you know who is knowledgable about tacomas/cars when something extremely minor is wrong or a mod is needed and then look way to deep into it and ask too many questions and then just never end up getting it done

Fan clutch is a thermal type, with No electronics hooked to it at all. Will not affect engine rpm's or trans. engagement/slippage at all. Even at total lock up (fan clutch), You can still get the rpm's up and go pending on how long you want to listen to the fan noise.

My opinion... You have something else going on.

Edit, to add: Total lock up at 1k rpm's is noisy. Total Lock up at 3k is a holy shit that's loud.

Just need to paint and install the tire carrier now. Does anyone have any auto body shop recommendations? I need to get a few quotes to get the 4runner repainted soon.

    Rollin' hydrocarbons!

Sweet! So I have a Switch Pro. I've never really liked it. I had one melt down already. They replaced it, but still. I only got it because at the time it was the only option with a mounting capability inside the cabin that looked OEM. Now I see that sPOD has an in-cab mount for their controllers (touchscreen) that would work for me. I'm thinking about changing it over, but wondering if it would be worth it. Initially, I like how much cleaner the install is on the sPOD. For the Switch Pro I have two distribution blocks in order to make things somewhat clean. I also fabricated a cover so that water wouldn't sit on it (SP has said that mounting it vertically is the way to go. I didn't).

I suppose all of that was to get your handful of pennies.

So, theres the potential I'll be in the area on Sunday. And my trip is coming up faster than I realized, I leave on the 21st.

Again, no pressure toward you on my end, just wondering if your take-off is going to be an option, or if I need to pull the trigger on something else to make sure it arrives on time.

Also, feel free to tell me to fuck off and leave you alone, my wife does it all the time. :bananadead:
