Nope. Just slow down and retrain your routine. I used to do that also.

The argument between the folks in Kansas and Colorado about MPG will never end, and no one will ever know why.

I don't think anyone bought a Tacoma to save fuel. What is interesting about this thread, however, are the vastly different mpg numbers people are getting. I'd be amazed to see 18 mpg on a trip or tank, while others are claiming 20, 22, 24...

I typically get 15-16 city. Highway is more like 17 or so. Yes, there are many variables involved (mine is a '19 TRD OR, MT, BFG AT 275/70/17, Sliders).

Maybe I should sell my chin strap / air dam to the highest bidder. I get 21-22 mpg... it’s all flat here . Biggest hill is the off/on ramp for the highway F429405D-C266-4A49-A4FC-F91A80116012.jpg

At just under 3000 miles my tank averages have been from 13.1 to 13.9 mpg. It's about what I'd expect for a 4400 lb 6cyl in urban traffic.

I get close to 19 at 65mph, drops to 15 at 75mph. OR lifted, so I have taken a hot on mpg.

I get 21 on the highway with 265.75.16. Bilstens up front @ 1.55 and add leaf in the rear. Air dam on and ready to go. Town driving is 18 mph. Not so bad

I must be one of the few that is actually happy with my gas mileage. I make a trip to the coast and back every few weeks that is 225 miles each way. I consistently get around 25mpg on these trips in the summer and around 24 in the winter. The trip is mainly flat, with some open roads at 75mph, back roads at about 60mph, and few small towns with stoplights to go through. My average speed for the amost 4 hour trip is usually a little less than 60mph. I've verified multiple times that the calculation from the display is accurate. 2017 TRD Sport 4x4 SB.

A little less than 60 would drive me crazy on a trip of that distance. I go 82mph when going from wichita to kc, mo which is about 200 miles. Posted speed limit on the kansas interstate is 75

Edit: I forgot to add I get around 24mpg, all stock

This is my first truck ever and was expecting to have a poor MPG right off the back when I purchased it. However, up until about 2k miles into it, I was trying to see if I can get my MPG up to 20s. Essentially, I gave up and learn to accept the fact. Love the truck though!

Didn’t expect my mileage to be great, but about 5k in I haven’t gotten less than 22 a tank. I drive about 60 miles a day, mix of highway and backroads. Morning commute is pretty easy, afternoon is stop and go. Average is 23 ish. Drive it like a truck, not a race car. I’ve got zero complaints on mileage.

Best I've gotten is 23.9 mpg for my 2019 off road with manual. That is the entire tank average, and I refueled at completely empty. Mix of highway and side streets. Worse tank was 23.1 mpg with the same conditions. Towing my 500 lb aluminum trailer and 700 lb quad, I get about 17.5 mpg. Truck is stock for now.

My gas mileage went through the roof when I removed my sway bar. The gas mileage really does depend on how you drive the truck. Even with all the weight I routinely see 20 mpg on my tank. Freeway trips I can see up to 24 mpg. I do not however, believe the digital readout is accurate. It’s greatly exaggerated. I just use it as a baseline. When I’m on the freeway I’ll usually be cruising in the middle lane doing 65-70 at around 1800 rpm. No cruise control.

On some trips I don't pay attention or care what the mileage is but on other trips or portions of them, sometimes it'll be a game to see what kind of mileage I really can get. Mine is a '18 Off Road DCLB with a Snugtop HiLiner 200 lb. shell on it. I DO have the front air dam/chin spoiler. Since I do quite a bit of highway driving these days, every little bit helps. Coming back from Monterey last week, the first leg from Monterey to Paso Robles, I averaged 27.7 going roughly between 60 and 65 mph. Actually kinda shocked me on a 5000+ lb. vehicle. Tire pressures at 40 psi all around and zero wear problems there. And i ONLY use cruise on perfectly flat stretches and never use radar cruise. Ever! As others have posted, aerodynamics, weight and speed are your biggest enemies, but driving style is huge too. And this is where CC really hoses your MPG. It's constantly on and off the throttle trying maintain a constant speed. Your best MPG is using a perfectly steady throttle and modulating as little as possible, speeding up on downhills to help carry you over the next uphill, which obviously only works sometimes, but helps when you can. Hell - two weeks ago, we were in the Owens Valley and drove the twenty miles from Lone Pine to Horseshoe Meadows - 4000' to 10,000' all up and got 10.1 on the way up and 88.1 on the way down. The average on that trip was about 23. Here's the screen just north of Paso coming south on U.S. 101. It was 95F out and was over 100F when I stopped in Paso. IMG_3342_27.7.jpg
