    Good Morning.

My active duty retirement ceremony was held on September 11, 2009. This flag was flown on Phoenix Base, International Zone, Baghdad, Iraq by US Forces that day. It arrived in our parcel box at our house on October 2, 2009; coincidentally our 25th Wedding Anniversary. It was totally unexpected and is one of my most cherished retirement gifts. It looks weathered because I flew it on our home 24/7 for 5 years.

Good morning. Hard thunderstorms came through about 4 this morning and woke me up. The rain that followed put me back to sleep. Rain will keep going for next couple of days though and we don't need anymore.

That is awesome Rob! My ceremony was held Dec. 7, 1995. Dec. 7 another date that will live in infamy. Was the anniversary date I joined the Navy but had 30 days leave on the books so actual retirement date was Jan. 96.

The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy came to my retirement ceremony and presented my shadow box to me. It has the flag that flew on board the USS America the day Desert Storm started. We were already doing sorties for Desert Shield from the USS America but when it switched from Shield to Storm kind of shocked us all.

That the flag was kept and he hunted it down for me still amazes me. But not as much as the fact that it was presented to me. For some of us The Flag still means something.
