I dealt with Mitchell when I bought my rack.
    No complaints here.

    Maybe.

If your worried about that, these type of racks aren't for you. Both prinsu and victory 4x4 have the same design. If you dont lower it to the roof you will get very loud wind noise and the truck will shake.

The OEM rack is probably gonna work better for you.

    Exactly!!
I also had noise, especially at high speeds, once I lowered the front with the stripping on, and moved the back piece up with the remaining weatherstripping above the light, noise is gone!!!

Get some of the clear film 3M makes and place accordingly.

I like the look of the Victory with a light bar more than the one without, however, I have no desire for actually using a light bar. So my question is this: is vanity a worthwhile reason? Are there additional differences such as mileage or sound? I would probably throw in the cheapest bar money can buy and not rush hooking it up.

Until I found this thread, I had a Prinsu on my list. I need to purchase soon as I’m getting a Tradesman cap installed in a few weeks and it has rise over the cab, so a more aerodynamic set-up is preferable for all the driving I do. Does anybody know what the lead times are for Victory vs Prinsu?

Does anyone know if the bar over the moon roof could be left out or scooted so the moon roof is completely unobstructed?

Also, are the Prinsu racks not powdercoated??

Is this too many questions??? ;)

I thought the 80-20 beams on the Prinsu were clear anodized.

(Edit for posterity: I was incorrect on this, not sure where I got that idea but in looking on the Prinsu website, I clearly see black 80-20 rails just like my Victory has, should have checked before posting...)

If you were talking about the extrude beams then they are not.

Putting down a layer of clear 3m paint protection would solve any paint rubbing issues.

You can leave that bar out over the sunroof, but it will be at the expensive of the rigidity of the sidebars. It really depends on how you plan on loading the rack.

Good question....I went with the light bar cutout just in case, but hope I did not make a bad decision by not adding a bar right away.

That would make sense, I was sure that I saw pics like that when I was deciding on my rack purchase. Thanks ;-)

Back in the day you could ask Zack for all sorts of options.. I don't know if cbi still does
    Mine is bare aluminum sides and anodized extruders;

Do you notice any noise or difference in mileage without the light bar? I would probably do this for awhile, but am doing a cross-country road trip soon, so torn about whether or not I need to fill the space sooner than later.

I don't have it yet, and unless I order an additional full face plate without the cutout I'll likely never know the difference in sound between the three options.

    1. Without cutout
    2. With cutout and no light bar.
    3. With cutout and a light bar.

You got me there. Curious if anyone who ran it empty noticed a change. Thread seems like optimally, there’s insignificant wind noise and a nominal change in mileage. I guess it’ll be a risk I’d have to take if nobody has experienced every option.

Interesting to read this as I have been looking at both racks over the past several weeks as I have been thinking of ways to spend my hard earned money on truck related things, and the mounting solution of the Victory rack was the immediate thing that stood out as a positive design difference for me personally. Again I am sure they are both excellent but I like the steel brackets over the spacer set-up. Probably just a perception thing but that's the main thing that would move me towards the Victory over the Prinsu.

I've been driving mine for a few months now without a bar in there, just haven't had the time to get one and get it done, doesn't seem to affect anything

I’ve been back and forth to northern Michigan three times since I’ve had the rack (and topper rack) installed. I have the cutout with a light bar up there. Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in mileage or noise (I had a Prinsu with no cutout up there before the Victory 4X4). It’s still just as shitty as it’s always been, but I do drive like a bat out of hell.

Next week doing a 2,000 mile round trip to the Keweenaw peninsula loaded up with all my camping and fishing gear for a week. I’ll get a much better feel for any difference in MPG after straight highway cruising speeds for 600+ miles straight. I’m not expecting much as the last couple tanks were almost exactly the same. 300 miles until I fill it back up.
