A couple issues...

I have a 2015 Tacoma (TRD Off Road) and there are a couple issues I'd like to get fixed and I'm seeking advice on how to fix them:

1. The passenger side rear mud flap is losing the white paint on it. Is there a way to reapply it without it looking like some schlub (me) just slapped some paint on it and called it a day?


2. The inside sides of the bed are scratched from hauling mulch (and me not being as careful as I should have been). I've tried Mr. Clean pads and they did nothing. I think the scratches are too large to remove. Is there a way to fix these?


Any advice you could offer would be much appreciated.

Take off the mudflaps and throw in a bed mat

 

No dice. The mudflaps stay. I just want to redo the "4x4" thing on them in a way that doesn't look like a rank amateur (me) has done it. And I already have a bed mat in it. I was referring to scratches on the interior sides of the bed. But thanks for the ideas.

 

You could look for someone willing to sell you their mudflaps. Many people remove them and may have some laying around. As far as the scratched on the bed sides, your bed is made of composite material so you should be able to use a fine sandpaper to smooth out the scratches. Aside from that, I don't think there is anything you can do. Another option would be to get a BedRug (https://bedrug.com/bedrug-classic-bedliners/2017/toyota/tacoma?ref=buildprint) and line the entire bed.

 

Paint pen for the mudflaps,nothing you can do about the scratch's in the bed,except coat it with a bedliner.

 

Maybe for the mudflaps one of those tire markers

Most important, it's a truck the bed will have scratches. Little gouges cant be buffed out since its composite. If it drives you nuts then have a nice bedliner of your choice installed

 

I’ll sell you my mudflaps off my ‘15. Haven’t had them on the truck since about 8,000 miles (at 50k now) Pm if you’re interested.

 

@rreed1900 ... Here's a good solution for your mudflaps.

 

For the mud flaps, tape is your friend. You can redo taping off the "4X4" as many times as you like until you get it perfect then using some "flexible" paint have a go at it. If it doesn't turn out well clean it off and try again. As for the bed, stick a tonneau cover over it and no one will see any scratches. Or just run with them as a badge of honor.

 

I think the suggestion from @AECkraut is worth trying. I will take a shot at taping off the mudflaps and spraying them with plastic paint. If that doesn't work, I will buy used ones in decent shape. Thanks to everyone for the ideas.

 

Get a little acetone and take the "white" off of the flaps.....the 4X4 will still be there as a "ghost" image, and you never have to worry about again.
A bed rug will cover the unsightly scratches and they are tough as nails.

 

Scratches in the bed add character to it. I used to care that my bed had scratches then realized those scratches mean it’s being used for its intended purpose.

I did inquire at Line-x about getting the bed sprayed, since it’s freaking slippery when wet, but was told they won’t spray a composite bed. So I got a bed mat to resolve that.

 

the 4x4 comes off all of our flaps so replacing is just a temporary fix. Just ignore the fade and move on.

 

I mean, it's a truck. If you use it, it won't stay mint forever. I guess you could figure out some sort of spray on bed liner and just replace the mud flap?

 

As above, just clean the white off the mud flaps looks better anyway. Did that to mine years ago. Simple Green and a scrub sponge its done. Had a Toyota bed mat since 09 and it leaves black on some things and its in a camper shell so not a cure all but stuff does not slide too much.

 

I think those aren’t your only issues.
