Might end up moving to Michigan. Their ccw is good for 39 states which is pretty cool

That’s a pretty good permit to have(Michigan map below). I’m moving to Oregon in two months and hate that they don’t recognize any out of state permits.

I thought Texas had the most reciprocity? Something about the process to get a CC permit being one of the toughest.

When I lived in TX and got my license, it was like an 8 hour class + written exam + accuracy test with 50 rounds at the range.

My understanding of Colorado is that they will accept your permit IF your Driver's license is from the same state. Now that I no longer live in TX. They will no longer honor it.

This is true. Some states like Colorado, penn an a few others will only recognize resident permits so your state id must match your CHL

Transporting from a state where the gun is legal through a state where the gun is not legal with the destination being another state where the gun is legal is OK. Doesn't mean you can have it out and use it but locked up is fine. That's not to say you wouldn't get harassed if searched but you would need to give them a pretty good reason to search your locked tool box like some search warrant level reasons.

Post up when you have CA plans I've only wheeled a few spots but would be up for tagging along for a little exploring.

Man you are paranoid! Must suck to have to carry everywhere to be safe.
As a tourist that has visited the states a bunch of times most people are pretty friendly!

If it was just me I prolly wouldn’t have even brought a gun. My girlfriends parents were freaking out about some couple that was murdered while hiking in Canada or something but mostly I just wanted to have it Incase my dog started some shit he couldn’t finish.

Totally makes sense! The whole country was shocked by those two idiots that did that. Have a great trip, looks like a blast!

    About California.

First, it's highly unlikely you will have your vehicle searched. CA Dept of Agriculture will be looking for fruits and veggies, if they don't simply just ask and then wave you through. ICE will be looking for for people. If a person can't fit in a bag, they won't look in it. Neither has the authority, nor interest, in other items or regulations other than the obvious "dead hooker in the trunk" situation.

Any other LEO will need to be able to articulate reasonable suspicion as to why your vehicle will be searched other than a Terry Search (areas within your reach and immediate control). Don't give permission to have your vehicle searched for any reason anyway. Just Say No! If they insist, don't physically stop them but take notes for your lawyer on the illegal search and repeat your verbal objection every couple of minutes.

Anyway it's extremely rare to get pulled over and have your vehicle searched. I would not be surprised to hear that these laws are violated everyday many times and not caught.

Having said that, it is illegal to bring into the State of CA any firearm in an Assault Weapon configuration. It is also illegal to bring in magazines of greater than 10 rounds. Don't travel with loaded firearms. Magazines can be loaded but not inserted in the firearm. Ammo & firearms do not need to be in separate containers.

There isn't "constructive possession" in relation to AWs and there are sections of law about inoperative conditions so it has been suggested if the lower & upper are separated by having the pins pulled, there isn't an AW but an inoperable firearm. It might be as easy as pulling the firing pin but best suggestion seems to be an immediately visible separation of the upper & lower. These are suggestions, none of it, AFAIK, is settled law through the courts.

Of course these are general suggestions and not legal advice as I am not a lawyer and it has been months since I stayed in a Holiday Inn.
