This exactly. Self custom tuning should take care of that 3-4 early shift though, it seems some people like it....I’m not none of them and look forward to custom tuning.

Yeap mine races gears like its late for something but Mat said many times that its because of 4.88 gears which throw off the shift points. I cant wait for the 4.88 2.0 tune.

I feel like the majority of shift complaints associated with the 3-4 shift will be difficult to resolve with the tune. Take a look at the jump between 3-4 in comparison to 1-2, and 2-3. Note the chart below is graphed with 6AT ratios, 3.91 rear axle ratio, and 31" tires, assuming a static shift point in all gears & 0% TC slip. You can gather how long the gears are in comparison to each other, visually.

The 3-4 shift could no doubt be better, but at the end of the day, the gearing is what it is and won't be changing. Rear end regearing will help mitigate the double overdrive, but the leap between 3-4 can not be resolved without regearing the transmission, which is not feasible.

Don’t you have gears? How are you lugging at 37mph at 1100 rpms?

    Best evidence of this yet.

The 4.88 gears just help reduce the gap in that 3-4 shift compared to the 3.91’s.
The giddyup is very cozy...let’s be honest

No. I tried 91 FOB and got the same MPGs and about the same feel. I couldn't justify the premium cost in my head. We only get 87 and 92 at Costco here, so I have not tried any 93 tunes.

Not yet. I’m scheduled for the end of the month, looking forward to it, and hopefully the end of my gear hunting.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
@OVTune , any updates on the handheld shipping issue? Lakes created but no movement. Storm issues or waiting for 2.0 OLE?

Amen!!! The engine doesn’t make any power down low and the gearing doesn’t help things so they compromised drivability for MPGs in an extreme way IMO.

Im stomping on the gas so much ch I’m getting worse mpg.

...unless 2021 they slap an electric motor into the existing drivetrain for that "Turbo" down low

Power to weight ratio seems to be how you get good mpgs in these trucks. My avg mpg around town has gone up 1-2mpg since 4.88’s

Adding 4.88's didnt change your power to weight ratio though

Changing gear ratios changes the number of revolutions your drive shaft makes to turn your wheels one turn

I’m 1.05 GL , 33’s. stock gears, for about 2 weeks, 200 miles...How long does it usually take for ECU to “settle in” on the tune?
