I haven't heard anything out of the ordinary, how loud it would be? I ask because since I installed the magna flow muffler, its a bit louder than stock. my milage is ~112K. As far as the smoke test, from the looks of a quick google search, would any shop be able to do it?

 

The ticking is similar to a sewing machine...
Sea foam is your smoke test, you can do it yourself and based on the code its Pre-cat so the muffler has NO bearing on the situation. its between the header and the cat, or the 02 itself, BTW 02 replacement (pre-cat is recommended at 80K miles).

 

Oh ok, so could it possibly still be something else causing all this, they supposedly replaced an O2 sensor at the place I went to. So could it something else, or did I just go to a shop where they really don’t know what they’re doing? Lol

 

I have no fucking idea to be honest since I dont know what they did. But you ONLY want DENSO O2 sensors. Dont want to sound like an ass, but most people have no idea what hey are doing from past experience, and I ran a 5 man crew for the dealer.

 

Gotcha man, yeah I’m just going to stay away from that shop and hope that the dealer will figure this out. Appreciate the info for everyone!

 

Can confirm Toyotas basically require Denso O2s.
My 87 was always a problem child when it came to passing smog. Replaced almost 300k mile O2 with non denso, still problem. Replaced that one with a Denso, passed smog without issue. Basically the generic O2 wasn't scaling properly. Say O2 readings are a scale of 0 (full lean) to 10 (pig rich). The generic would only show readings in a range from 2-5. ECU constantly thought the engine was running lean and would throw more fuel at the problem.

Also: Inspect your wiring harness closely. I have had issues with rats with my Tacoma. They think toyota's wiring is delicious.

 

No problem, as said just idle the truck and spray a bunch of seafoam in it using a port that has suction and it will smoke pretty hard and you will be able to see the leak, may take 2 people so one can up the RPM and the other can look for leaks.
And from what I see at shops is they use a Bosch O2 universal unit thats a real POS and not properly calibrated, but boy are they cheap! Not saying this is the case but as a tech I see it a LOT!

 

Very true! or run a scanner on it and see what the numbers are doing, or if its a wire it will show no signal or a bad heater circuit.

So are you still here in Vista? I need to get with you and buy those LCAs if you still have them, Im starting to go through my truck and get it back up to par and the lower bushing are smoked, would just rather get yours and put those on, and likely going to end up fabbing a rear 4 link for it as well.
I think its time to get the chassis all dialed with new bushings and start building the turbo setup, should be ridiculously fast.

Well I ended up taking it to the dealership, and sure enough as someone posted on the thread I made about this issue, it seems it was a TSB or bulletin that Toyota had sent out or something like that. But according to the techs, they said it was basically some sort of update that the truck needed and that no parts needed to be replaced. So I went ahead and did that and so far so good, but it did take some time for the light to come on last time so I’m just crossing my fingers that was the issue.
