The latter. Don't take offence. Just looks a lot like Yeti colors.

Very nice. Im a runner and biker myself. Road though, I am forever scared of down-hilling by the time I went to Whistler with some friends who were hard-core down-hillers. I should have picked up on it given they always talk about their broken bones.

:notsure: it was the only color they had in stock and I didn’t want to order one so I rocked with it. Want to get some bronze wheels so it matches the runner one day

I love to run but short attention span got bored. I get a slight adrenaline rush from mountain biking so I go damn near any chance I get now.

I can do ~8 miles running/jogging without dying dying but not much more.

New to this lifestyle as I’ve only been doing it about a year now.

    NICE!

Ultras? I did a few seven years ago, then took a break. This summer I've done three runs over 30 miles, but I'd like to get back into ultra shape.

I just announced I’m training for my first ultra 2021. I’m turning 30 that year so I’m coming up with crazy ass goals like run 50 miles and pay off my house LOL
I’m pretty sure I need a mental disorder named after me.

Do you have any good ultra training programs or books you recommend?
I’ve done a marathon and several halfs both road and trail. Its time to step it up.

I’ve been told I need to do a 50k before a 50 miler and not go straight from 26 to 50 miles.

breaking the 1/2 marathon distance without suffering is tough. I still suck a running, I'm just slow in general. Eventually learned I am more of an ultra person. I don't run fast, but I can run for a long, long time. Skiing and climbing is where I get my adrenaline fix. You are completely right though, its a lifestyle.

Lies. You can do 50 now. If you keep your pace around a 4-5mph, so 12ish minute mile, you can go forever. Once you do a marathon, you have the ability to crush some serious distance in 24hrs as long as you resist the urge to race. I got my wife to off-the-couch run 33 miles with 9.6k total elevation gain last month. She hasn't ran a marathon in five years. We got it done in 11.5 hours - lots of walking to say the least, but its still respectable. Now I'm trying to get her to do a proper ultra and do an 80 miler with me next year. Find someone on your same page, bring a couple ace bandages, give yourself the entire day, and just do it.

Here is a thought: if you average 4mph, which is an annoyingly slow pace, you can do 50 miles in 10 hours... come on! Totally do-able. That pace is on the boarder of a fast walk and a slow jog. In fact, you can walk the uphills and run the down hills, and still get 50 done in a day.

I’m glad you said that. I feel that for a lot of this its mind over matter but I’m venturing into uncharted waters here.

I’m excited for sure. I had some health issues last year that are now behind me and I’m ready for a new challenge.

I feel better now thanks :)

My brother wants to do the Silver Rush 50 which is at 10k-12k ft which scares me a bit but I still feel its doable. I’ve climbed Pikes Peak so I’m gauging it against that.

The key to being a successful endurance athlete is quality hydration.

You are in Colorado? PM me, we can go for a "hike". I define a hike as an ultra in which it is OK to walk a bit. That will get your confidence up. If you need more confidence, calculate the the calories burned at a running pace for 26 miles vs a fast walk at 50 - not too different. Also, if you think about the bio-mechanics and the total forces you place on your body at a fast pace and short distance vs a slow pace and long distance, its also not that different. What I'm getting is you likely have already put your body through the metabolic and physical demands of an ultra, but just did it in a short period of time. Now, if you wanted to do 100... well I'd pass on that until next summer. I have only done 100 in less than 24hrs once, its was eight years ago, and I couldn't walk for two weeks. Those are distances you need to prepare for. But 30-50... thats something you can do fairly comfortably, particularly if you average 20-30 miles a week of running.

YES YES YES! Love leg day. Best day two days of my week. What is your routine? I am always intrigued by the weight lifting routines of folks who identify as endurance oriented people.

Well I walk up and down tons of stairs at work and bike on the weekend so I don’t focus as hard for legs as others do and as others have seen, I’m still amateur in bodybuilding.

    But today I’m doing

    Squats
    Barbell lunges
    Leg press
    Deadlift.
    Calf raises

And may throw some random stuff in there like a sissy squat depending on how I’m feeling

What is your logic behind doing squats and deadlifts in the same day? For my two leg days of the week I squat one day and deadlift the other.

Idk I was just gonna try it today cause I usually do deadlifts on back day but I’m considering doing em twice a week to get my core and lower back and hamstring strength up. I’m figuring this shit out as I go lmao

I used to live in CO. My Dad and in laws still live out there.

What you are saying is what I’m learning about ultras. Its not equivalent to road racing which is what I’m used to. Its a pure endurance event focused on sustaining yourself over a long distance. Not running to the point where theres zero in the tank at the finish line.

I believe for my marathon my average weekly miles were 35-45 but I peaked at 55.
It was a lot but I believe volume prepared me for the feat not the long runs. I suffered in my long runs over 16-18 miles.
I found Hansens marathon method after my first marathon which sucks because I totally believe running over 16 miles in training is pointless for a marathon.
Wondering if you feel the same. Is volume more important in an ultra than the need to do excessive long runs in training?
