So, I had a 2017 TRD Pro with A/T, and even though I liked every thing else about the truck, I couldn't get over the shifting issues. It just wasn't any fun to drive. Even OVTune didn't make it good enough to keep. I ended up trading it in for a 2019 Civic Type-R. I didn't realize until I got home that the Type-R only has 4 seat belts (it was the first thing the wife pointed out, and I have a family of 5). I made it work for a while, but the bottom line is, it just isn't practical.

I found a dealership willing to trade me pretty much straight up for a new 2019 Tacoma TRD Off-Road with M/T (https://www.bryaneaslertoyota.com/i...off-road-4wd-4x4-double-cab-5tfcz5an5kx207164). Basically, they are giving me 33,500 for trade and selling the truck for 33,500. Is this a good deal? I'm a pretty good haggler and they are not budging any more than this.

I am not looking to get out of the truck what I was getting out of the Type-R. They are apples and oranges. I'm basically trying to recover from the mistake of ever buying the A/T TRD Pro to begin with. Thoughts?

Have you looked at a 4 runner? Obviously you don't need the truck bed, and it seems you need the room and seating. Just a thought.

Take it. Brand new with zero miles. Grab it before they change their mind. You can buy it, drive to Carmax and sell it for a profit

I have looked at 4-runners. No M/T that I could find, and I actually would prefer the bed for some service work that I plan on doing. There are some things I haul that I would rather not have in the vehicle. Do they make M/T 4-runners?

That sounds pretty solid to me... only thing is October is truck month (at least here in Ohio) and they seem to make the best deals on the overall price and the rates then. For example, I bought a brand new OR M/T for 31,500 with 0.9%...that was in 2017 though so the min price has gone up slightly. I bet you'd get similar money for your trade but might be able to get a slightly better price on the truck if you wait a couple weeks.

Go manual, only shifting issues with them is the driver!

2000 was the last year of the 4Runner with MT.

Definitely. They have a TRD Pro that's a manual as well. It would obviously cost me a little, but I think I can get it for around $40k. Just not sure the difference is worth $7k. So pretty though!

My 0.02 - you can buy the same/better suspension, wheels, and better tires for a lot less than 7k. I'd go OR and then upgrade if you really need the extras.

I paid $33k for my TRD OR DCSB 4WD Auto in June, I would think they can budge on the price some more, but then again not sure factoring in your trade.

...........I'm scared to ask how you "made it work" with 5 people and only 4 seat belts.

Sounds like a good deal, OP. I’m pretty sure I’d go for it.

Sounds like a good deal IMO. You won't regret the MT with ADM and Ovtune too.

Also the Newer 4runner is no better than the Tacoma when it comes to shifting/gearing with the AT.

Keep in mind the Pro comes with all the bells and whistles, whereas the OR adds them in packages. So the OR you linked doesn't have the premium package (heated seats, sunroof, dual zone a/c) and it doesn't appear to have the tech package ("upgraded" stereo, back up sonar, BSM, color matched rear bumper). Given that, you're not getting a great deal, but the M/T taco is a great truck, so...

The 4Runner has a great engine and auto transmission. A much better vehicle than the 3rd gen Tacoma.
