If I had to make a suggestion, I would preemptively replace the coolant bypass pipe that runs along the driver's side of the block. The factory pipe is made of molded plastic and is prone to crack, which happened to mine right around 200K. I was fortunate in that I was only a couple of blocks away from home when the truck started to puke coolant and overheat. Not surprisingly, the replacement pipe is stainless steel. That was really the first time I had to make an actual repair to the truck. As far as I can tell, this only affected the pre-2012 2TR-FE

If by "yellow top" you mean an Optima battery, that's a big NO! Optima batteries have been sub par since production moved south of the border in the mid-2000's.

My last Interstate battery lasted 10 years and I still have a US made Optima red top still going that was purchased in April 2001.

So no Optimas whatsoever? And you seriously have an 18-year old battery?

I wouldn't go for that deal. If you so much as install an aftermarket switch, say goodbye to that warranty lol

Maybe I should put the foglights in before I get a new battery then? Also, my powered subwoofer (has its own amp) and external amp are already tied into the battery...

Would you have to register this in Vermont? It's a 1994 Chevy Suburban diesel, and the window sticker says it can't legally be registered in California...

Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna do it now...

The dealer is good for one thing, and that's Pennsylvania state inspection. If Pennsylvania ever does away with it's draconian inspections, I'll have no reason to go the dealer anymore!

TW has spoiled me on the Batteries + X2 batteries. Recently I needed a battery for my Mazda RX8. Pretty much all of the decent batteries are ~$150. After the order online, pick up in store discount and the $20 mail in rebate, the X2 came to $226. I decided that for an extra ~$75, it was worth it to get a super double throw me down battery with a 5 year replacement warranty.

+1 on them figuring a lot of people will be buying another car by the time they're needing a battery that the dealer would be eating (ie out of the supplier's warranty period), plus ig it's "exclusive" to them, can you get a new battery anywhere else? I'm gonna guess not, plus at $30 install, you're 1/4-1/3 of the way to just buying a battery, although it does mean you don't have to do anything...

I had 2 Diehard Platinum (Odyssey) batteries... well, one, and another that got replaced 3 times under warranty... and that crap learned me that service is important too.

Anywhere else: "Hey, my battery is dead." *maybe tests it, maybe charges it or says to charge it and bring it back if it's way discharged* *gets new battery, goes on merry way*

Sears: "Hey, my battery is dead. Again."
'Sir, we need to take it, put it on this machine that discharges it, charges it completely, discharges it again, charges it again, then we test it, then if it fails it has to discharge it a 3rd time and recharge it to re-test. It takes about 3 or 4 hours.'
"OK, well, I tested it and printed the result, it's sitting at almost 13.0, but it tests at like 25CCA."
'Sir, you obviously don't know what you're doing, that's impossible, come back in a few hours and we'll have it charged up and working fine.'
    *comes back in 4 hours*
'Well, your battery failed, it's measuring 25CCA fully charged. Oh, by the way, we can't find the one we were supposed to have to give you, but we thought we were so smart and you were wrong, so we didn't bother looking til 10 minutes ago. Soooooooo... you get a new battery.... but you can't have it."

Yes, that's basically a transcript of a real thing that happened, my warranty battery took an entire Saturday afternoon/evening and a 30 mile round trip in a borrowed vehicle, and that's leaving out the manager of the other store, whose only job was to hand me the free battery he had, telling me my group 31 died because "it's a boat battery, and it would take your truck a week to charge it back up from a single startup."

I buy good batteries, I don't mind spending for them and I do give free replacement period a good bit of weight, but what they got going sounds like a sucker's bet. I'd give decent odds they're just selling their 'premium' battery marked up even more, and figuring between the install charge and barriers to actually using the warranty they're going to come out ahead.

I cannot believe it's been 18 years since that awful day...

Like pretty much everyone in America, I remember exactly where I was when I found out about the 9/11 attacks. My dad was in the Navy for 25 years (1982-2007) and we were living in Oak Harbor, Washington at the time. Since we were on the West Coast, we were three hours behind and the attacks happened a good two three hours before I woke to go to school. I was 12 years old and had just started the seventh grade. My mom woke me up that Tuesday morning, but something was different. This had nothing to do with oversleeping and being late for school. Something was more than just different, something was wrong.

We lived in a rancher, meaning it was one-story house, so the family room was just a few steps down the hall from my bedroom. My mom roused me from bed and led me, still half-asleep, into the family room; She planted me directly in front of our 32-inch Sony Trinitron (remember those?) and told me, if I remember correctly, that some bad people had crashed airplanes into the World Trade Center and Pentagon. It took a moment for what had just happened it to completely sink in...

I went to school like normal and my life was largely unaffected by the events; While 9/11 didn't directly effect me or my family and friends, it was still the first time I'd ever felt genuine hatred for an individual (Bin Laden, of course). It didn't interrupt my life, but it did upset me greatly.

Five or so years later, we were back living in PA and my parents and I took a trip to New York City. We visited Ground Zero. We stayed in a hotel in Jersey, and I do believe it was on that trip that a surviving co-conspirator in the attacks was on trial and it was all over the news. There was this Asian woman in her late 20s who had worked in one of the towers, and she was there when the planes hit them. She had absolutely no chance of escape, but she still called 911 and pleaded for help. They played the conversation between her and 911 operator as evidence at the terrorist's trial. This poor woman kept asking if she was going to die, and the 911 operator was doing their absolute best to keep her calm. The Asian woman, whose name I can't remember, perished when the towers collapsed.

I can remember my dad overhearing the 911 recording and commenting that the terrorist on trial was "screwed". Keep in mind, that I was a 17-year old high school student, rebellious and angry at the world for various reasons. **I am actually tearing up as I write this** I knew that thousands of people had died in the attacks, but this was a woman who until a few minutes ago I had never even heard of; After I heard that 911 call, I almost started crying right there, but I attempted to hide it because I was a bit embarrassed to be crying. I wished I could have gone back in time, reached through that phone, and rescued that Asian woman whose name I can't even remember unharmed from that tower like Superman. I actually asked my mom, while almost on the verge of tears, if this woman had suffered when she died, and became quite visibly upset. Again, this was in 2006 or 2007, at least half a decade after the attacks had taken place.

    Well, that's my story...

    NEVER FORGET!

    Not the Tacoma's Lifetime.

You know how a lot of people are still driving trucks 20-30 years old or older...

My Toyota dealer will probably blacklist me by the late 2020s!

    Mine too.

Read the FINE print. Also beware that if you do return with what you think is a bad battery, they will likely tell you they need to charge it up and test it. That charge time will end up going on most of the day. If that doesn't get them off the hook they'll claim your vehicle has a parasitic drain which they will be more than happy to diagnose for a fee and repair for another fee.

Forget the Lifetime Battery. Go get a Maxx from Walmart.

Whatever you like. Just realize Interstate does not make batteries. Most of theirs are made by Johnson Control, the same company that make WMs Maxx.

    What's WMs Maxx?
