Last December 09 I think I paid about 28k plus tax and title. They also installed the roof racks and the side step tubes. I bought dbl cab 4x4 trd off road towing package, etc. It seemed like a deal at the time. The grand total was around 30084 bucks.

Believe it or not, dealerships nowadays are so F*#king scrutinized that contrary to what everyone thinks :"...the dealers invoice is not really what they pay" is completely untrue. Second stickers are greedy, but the difference between invoice and MSRP are actually not that far apart.

If you want the best customer service, a fun and happy buying experience, and a place to go anytime for help I am going to give you the recipe. Ready?

First know YOUR budget. Don't ask the salesperson to fit a $25K truck into your $20K budget. You won't have fun and you'll end up leaving thinking that the "sales guy" is trying to rip you off and the salesperson will be flipping you off as you leave for wasting his time. Both of which are not conducive of a good relationship with someone you are going to be giving a lot of money to.

And the icing on the cake? BE NICE!!! There is nothing worse than meeting an arrogant know-it-all trying to show off his muscle to his friend, spouse, or mate.

Those two rules will get you an awesome experience. :)

thats sick. its 9% of the purchase price or difference with trade. New tacoma with no trade can cost you up to 3,000 in taxes alone!

Taxes in SC will come to fruition soon. That is why I decided to purchase sooner rather than later. Also, the plate transfer helps drop the bottom line. I just hope the truck was a good purchase and will last. My car history:

89 wrangler - drove ten years
96 Bronco full size - drove ten years after the wrangler
96 Accord - drove 2 years and hated every minute of it! (was wifes car, bought her an '06 XC90 V8)

Now back into a 4x4!!!!! Where I belong. Everyone seems to love-em and I hope it matches the enjoyment I got out of the wrangler and the Bronco!

2nd this. Truecar.com also pulls real transaction data from DMV tax records, so you can see what other people paid on average.

I'd use this as a starting point, and then try to get below the "best" price offered by a dealer on truecar.

You'll love it. Once you read some of the cheap/easy mod threads and get going you'll love it even more :)

So far I've purchased 2 new, 2 used. When all the competitors are offering 0%, it at least creates the uphill battle for the dealer and shows you've done your homework. Worst they can say is no and it forces them to counter offer you if they won't offer 0%. I do like your idea about asking for the cost difference between 0% and whatever their interest rate is though. You have to remember, you hold the money, you're the client. If they laugh you out of the office, I certainly wouldn't buy from that dealer. If they're that bad before you even buy from them, imagine what their customer service will be like afterwards...

I would say travel to Indiana or Southern Illinois. Just get outside Chicago and you'll see the prices drop. They will charge whatever the market will bear. You may not buy it at the invoice price but the next guy might. They sell so well they don't have to move to much on price. You can search the internet by zip code and see the price difference.

Is it a bad idea to let the dealer know right away that you have a trade in? It's always one of the first things they ask.

No, don't tell them that. They will try and screw you at both ends. Tell them that Uncle John might by your trade in. Then negotiate the price of your new car. Since there is currently a $750 rebate on Tacomas, it had better be below invoice after the rebate. Then, after the price of the new car is settled, ask them how much they will give you for the trade. Never take their first offer or two...

I would highly recommend that you walk in and play with them for a while. Then leave. They will call you when they want to make a deal.

I traded my '03 mini Tacoma for my PreRunner, and I got $600 over kbb trade in value, and paid $1150 below invoice.

Oh, and don't buy used. Too many unknowns, and you're buying a Tacoma. The depreciation on a a Tacoma doesn't follow normal rules.

I guess it's a Texas thing, but dealers here are only offering rebates on regular and access cabs. I've been emailing a couple dealers back and forth and so far the best price I got was $29,677.00 +ttl. This is for a 2011 TRD Sport DCLB 4x4. I haven't mentioned to any of them about my trade, yet. I wonder how much lower they'd go? *crosses fingers*

If not much, I may just wait a little longer and wait for a low mileage pre-owned one to pop up. I'm not that much in a hurry.

I emailed an out of state dealer for giggles that had a bunch of 2010s in stock. The MSRP was $31,840. He quoted me $29,500 OTD with no trade! I asked for a truck only price as I lived out of state and didn't need the "life time warranty" they were including. Waiting for a reply.

I just contacted a dealer and he tried to convince me that the invoice he sent me on a 2011 Access AT 4x4 SR5 was the invoice price. But it was the MSRP! He even stood behind it when I told him both Edmunds AND Toyota.com showed his price as being MSRP. Needless to say I will not be buying from them.

Paid close to 30,000 plus tax and tags for a 2011 Double cab TRD off road w/tow package & w/JBL audio . Floor mats and bed extender included in this price. I've seen a website that says there is 1,000 incentive on 2011 tacoma now, this may be a mistake, not sure.
    Here is website.

incentives must be by region. The out of state dealer im looking at has no incentives on tacomas listed and only 2000 on tundras. Here, it is 750 cash on tacomas and 3500 on tundras for example.
