Thanks, I’m a new tuner. Lots of info to digest..... but overall, I’m happy with it so far.... Be anxious to see the final release of 2.0

Right, but now the power needed to move the same weight is less. So my potential power is greater for the same amount of weight. This should mean that the engine doesn’t have to work as hard to move the same weight

In theory you could make the truck move with a lawnmower engine if you gear it right. The only issue would be if you wanted to get the truck moving at a reasonable speed.

If you are running 33's or better i recommend skipping the 4.88's and go straight to the 5.29's. They weren't out when i geared my truck i drove same 2016 sport 4x4 with 5.29's and its really the best setup! You can absolutely forget about any gear hunting , you can use cruise control, best of all it will pull 6th. I will be bumping up to 5.29's this winter i hope! The 4.88's dont cut it. Around town is good but highway driving is still not as good as it could be! Still have gear hunting ,forget CC, 6th is only good for flat highways still downshifts just going over freeway over pass.

I went the simple route and have no issues with shifting, towing, mileage, cc, s mode, gl or ride. 4.88's and stock tire size. I hear they will be coming out with 6.29's for those wanting something bigger than 5.29.'s and 35's. Holly shit I see 40's in the future soon! Marketing is where the $ is. Next stop is the SC or TT if you want real preformance.

I can't even imagine going to a 5.29 rato on 33s. Unless you're going to never drive above 55mph, you'd be so far out of the peak fuel mileage rpm range. I've been on 4.88s for over a year and am wishing there was a 4.27 or 4.11 option.

Negligible, at +400 rpms cruising. Engine doesn’t doesn’t run as hot (puts like a kitten...rpm needle “floats”) when it’s not working as hard to maintain speed

    32’s + 4.88’s = ideal Tacoma setup for 95% of needs/situations

Agreed. 75mph with 4.88’s and 32’s is a nice cruising speed that has the throttle to acceleration response as it should (no dead peddle)

If 4.56 were available, and I felt the need to regear, that’s probably where I’d go. That’s a ~17% change in ratio from our 3.91s.

If you get a chance to drive someones truck with 5.29's you will be blown away! The truck i drove gets 18MPG's on the highway if he keeps under 70 MPH! No lugging no constant shifting on the slightest grades. 4.88's cant do that at least on my truck it cant! My truck is extremely heavy so that plays a role in the gear hunting on any kinda incline. The 6th to 4th gear downshifting going over any freeway overpass when CC is on really sucks! I dont bother with CC anymore!

It’s not the same conversion though with the double overdrive in AT. Sometimes the 4.88’s don’t seem like enough IMO (rarely though)

Your truck must be REALLY heavy because mine is about 6k lbs and it drives splendidly with 4.88’s and the 4.88 OVtune Beta. On paper 5.29’s make total sense for anyone heavy and wide 33’s or bigger

My truck is heavy! Approx 7k at last weighing on 35" KM3's....I wish 5.29's were available when I regeared too (I was an early adopter). However, this new 2.0 tune is legit and I enjoy long 1000k trips over mountain passes, etc now...
