Hey I need some help. I want to buy a 13ft, over 100 pound old town kayak but I am having trouble finding brands to shop. Because the yack is so long the bed rack should be higher than the standard ones people are putting roof top tents on. If I could pair a roof rack with a bed rack in height that might be better. Anyway I have seen some basic bed racks but I don't like the look of them, I like the ones with support on length and side mounting options like the overlanders are using. Also I am going to be driving for hours on the interstate to get to some cool lakes in other states so it needs to handle the wind and weight. Much appreciate and help. Thanks.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks

    2 - 15' yaks in a baby 5 lug. A couple of pieces of 1x8 and a bed extender.

No reason to hoist that slug you're buying overhead if your bed is open.

    Your back will thank you.

In addition to bars like that, I always thought the yakima roller on the rear bar would be helpful. I’m not sure if it really is

    See https://www.yakima.com/handroll

If you're going to be hauling them often and don't want something semi permanent like a rack the T-bone is bar none the best you can get: https://boonedoxusa.com/collections/vehicle-accessories-1/products/t-bone-bed-extender

Seriously it's worth the extra money over a harbor freight type bed extender. the subtle bend stops it from scraping on steep areas and it's lightweight and made for this task. I was able to get one from a local dude for $50 but would gladly pay full price for one now that I know what you're getting.

Hey thanks everyone. Its made of plastic stuff.
Anyway I read a lot of yaks get rear ended on bed extenders so I don't really want to go that route.
When I looked up Thule a Leitner bed rack popped up as well. Its pretty cool but pricy at 1500. I was hoping to pull something off for a grand but the same style as that.
The Thule roof rack didnt pop up only the bed rack. Are they seperate companies on your rig?

The Yakima rack looks interesting. See https://www.yakima.com/overhaul-hd.

You probably have a local fab shop that can make you some bars for a much lower cost.

I have a yakima drydock off my hitch, with regular yakima bars on top of my cab fitted with the 'deckhand' cradles. If you have 2 people, the handroll works as intended, and is definitely a great system. With just 1 person, I found the weight of my kayak (14' Jackson Cuda) was too heavy, and the handrolls twisted around the drydock bar mount.

On my own I've found ways to work around this, and still am able to get the kayak on top of my truck and strapped down with the deckhand/handroll combo, but the system definitely works better with another person.

I like this. It's a back saver. Lifting a 100lb kayak onto the roof can get old.

Have a look at UpTop Overland. It is on the expensive side, but definitely strong and sturdy. They have the roof rack, bed rack, and bed rack top to match the roof rack.

Will follow as I am looking for the same. Also looking for something that I can also keep the tonneau on.

There are only a few options for those.
You can get a setup where it prevents your tonneau from opening, if you don't care too much about that.
Or you can get a system that allows you to open it, but it looks as bit awkward that way.
