Hi all, just joined the forum and this is my first post.

I’m having a 2018 tacoma delivered in 2 days to my house by carvana. (Limited, 4 door, short bed, ATM, 2wd, 13,000 miles). I will have an hour with the truck to decide if I want to keep it and 7 days after that to return no questions asked. So, I’ve been in a 2006 TJ wrangler as my daily driver since 2006 (I’m excited for cruise control and power windows, power locks, haha). As a newbie to Tacoma’s what are the things I definitely need to check upon delivery and then also during the 7 day return period? I plan on taking it to a dealership during that week, but want to make sure I’m checking all the right things that would be deal breakers.

I hear issues/problems with ATM fluid being low, what’s the best way to go about checking that or trusting the dealer to check?

Also, one slight concern is that it’s a fairly young truck and it’s a significantly better price (30k) than most that I see that are comparable (and even some older, higher mileage, SR5s/TRDs with 2wd) and CarFax shows it has already had 2 owners. That makes me wonder if it might be a lemon? Wondering what I should be on the lookout for that would be a deal breaker. I’ve read on the forum a lot of the complaints/issues they have, but wondering what y’all more experienced folk would generally make sure is good before finalizing the purchase after I drive it around for a few days.

    Thanks.

Here’s a nickel’s worth the free advice: never buy a vehicle from a vending machine...take it to a mechanic let him check it out before you regret it.

That’s exactly what I’m doing. I would never buy a vehicle without having a mechanic I trust inspect it. I’m even considering taking it to two different mechanics.

Thank y’all for the help. I did the Toyota owners account and that brought up some service records. I’m not 100% sure I understand what was done at two of the visits however. What exactly do y’all think was done here? I’ve also included the parts that are listed. That way when I take it to the mechanic I can get them to hone in on some areas if needed. I’m also gonna try and call the dealerships to see if they can give me info on the truck.

Someone was drilling something into the bed and hit the fuel filler neck. They replaced the neck haha. The other one I think is an ECU update.

Well, it does look like there’s a bed cover and some sort of carpeted bed liner...

Off topic but I still don't know how yall are getting that site to work. It's been down for me, for like...6-7 months now. I've tried on several different browers, computers, everything. Always error 500, site down for maintenance.

Check the paint and body panels. Bought a car from there and nothing showed up on the provided "Autocheck", but after a couple of months of ownership started noticing overspray in places and later noticed damage repairs. The car had been wrecked, repaired and repainted. They also like to throw on new off brand tires and even mismatch them. My fault for not looking at it closer. I would use them again but I would do a much closer inspection upon arrival.

Thanks for all the replies! I've had the truck a couple days now. So far everything checks out. I like it a lot although I can see why anyone even an inch taller than me would hate it as there's little head room (I have a sunroof). Sure enough, it has a Backflip tonneau cover, which has the drain lines going through the bed. So looks like y'all guessed right on the drilling through to the fuel line, haha. It also has a full BedRug liner. It's going to a mechanic I trust Monday and then to the actual Toyota dealership Tuesday in an attempt to find anything possibly wrong so I can either turn it back in or get Carvana to repair it free. Biggest thing I want to make sure gets checked is auto trans fluid as some of the downshifts are more noticeable than I'd expect and when sitting still shifting from drive to reverse and back causes a bit more a "jump" than I'd expect. It doesn't bother me, just want to make sure it's the way it's supposed to be rather than because of low fluid and potentially leading to damage.

Anyway, just wanted to follow up now that I have the truck in my possession. Thanks for all the comments!
