    Yeah, no lie. I work in the VA and NO ONE would even remotely entertain someone starting that discussion. In a meeting with a new executive, one of my fellow managers mentioned loud enough for all to hear “I didn’t spend 20 years in artillery for you to tell me how wrong I am about what veterans need.” Shut the place up.

    That exec never served, and she never got anything accomplished.

    Her replacement did active 6 years in the Navy and 22 in the reserves. We’ll follow him anywhere.

    We don’t care if you’re a man, woman, black, white, tall, short, red state, blue state, or self-identify as a genderless hamster...we don’t like you unless you were also idiot enough to raise your right hand and swear to defend the Constitution against all manner of yahoos and assholes.

    Amen, and pass the #12. Daddy wants that salty cheese on his crackers.

    I’m fine with people who didn’t serve, just don’t act like you did or know what it’s like. Also don’t get butt hurt if I’m overly candid and don’t sugar coat shit, a life of service will do that to you.

    We have a senior manager whose office is all decked out in memorabilia. Turns out he was a guardsman who never deployed. Meanwhile, those of us with 7+ deployments behind us don't keep any.

    I lived that shit - I don't need reminders.








    Besides, security won't let be bring in my Arab daggers or empty shell casings.

    Have a golf buddy whose pool room (pool table) has more Marine stuff, you know what I mean.
    Full Marine Corps flag, mugs, stickers etc.

    Vietnam Viet is how he tells it.

    Start digging and you find out he served <12 months, most of it stateside. His deployment was to Subic Bay as a clerk.


    When he starts, I simply ask him how many times he actually engaged "Charlie"

    He has finally shut up

    Love the punisher guys. Almost as much as the decked out AR guys. Mine is fairly decked out BUT I’ve actually carried one in combat with far more do dads then mine has.

    I have my home office with my flags and PCS stuff my guys have gotten me. I’ve also actually deployed and not to just to Kuwait. I did end up giving my expensive ass Vietnam wall print to Goodwill after I started deploying. Those kind of reminders I don’t need. These ones (below) remind me of the better experiences and why I stayed in.
