Our state has gone hands free by law now. I have a 2008 Tacoma with JBL audio and steering wheel controls. What is a simple solution for going hands free connectivity via bluetooth through the radio?

I tried the type that uses the cigarette lighter plug.
It connected to the phone via Bluetooth, then sent a radio signal to the radio.
You could select the station you wanted.
Needless to say it was a PITA and sound quality was not too good.
That’s the easiest and simplest way to do it.
    I do not recommend it.

I would recommend a radio unit with built in Bluetooth.
Unfortunately this isn’t the simplest way.

I installed a cheap Pioneer double din stereo with bluetooth in my '06... IIRC, the stereo, install kit, and wiring harness together cost me around $150...

It's not a very easy to use stereo, though. I'm considering replacing it with a more 'user friendly' model... the bluetooth feature works great on it though.

Get a blue tooth hands free unit that is rechargeable with an USB plug for recharging. That way you can just plug it into your current radio and then switch to it when you want to use it. This way you can either charge it occasionaly in the truck or take it inside to recharge it from a home charger.

The simple ones are the bluetooth speakers that clip to your visor. Aigital model T-821 on Amazon is a popular model.

For about the same price and more popular than the speaker models, most folks use a FM transmitter adapter with bluetooth capability, such as the Roav model mentioned above. It works best when you are using your phone to play music through the device; if you are listening to another radio station, you need to go to the pre-selected channel to use the bluetooth functionality, or put the phone on speaker mode to complete a call. Personally, I've been using a Nulaxy KM18 and just ordered their latest model, a NX-09; both models accept micro-SD data cards to play mp3 music; the NX-09 adds a USB port for flash drives. The Roav has neither.

Go to crutchield and upgrade your stereo with steering wheel controls and hands free options. I spent about $350 for a touchscreen Kenwood DDX575BT to replace my JBL. I stream music through BT, WAZE navigation (usb to my phone), and hands free phone call quality is exceptional. I also have front and rear cameras installed.

I've been using the Blue Ant S4 for about 8 years now. It's older, but it works for me. Calls are crystal clear and it will read text messages from the SMS "Messages" app only. It will not read from Telegram X, which our family uses all the time. That doesn't bother me, 'cause I figure if it's important, they'll call.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XAV1000/Sony-XAV-AX1000.html I looked at it this way . If i got pulled over her in nj for not being hands free its a $250 ticket. And i have a 2010 and the stock radio sucks so for under $300 bucks I upgraded the stock radio with the sony link above great hands free Apple and android auto you can use google and waze all through your phone and can add a backup camera. In my opinion you get a good radio and never have to worry about Bluetooth C345E6EA-4330-44B6-8C36-284512F4C71E.jpg

This is $25 at Walmart. Fits perfectly in my 08. Right in reach yet out of the way. To be honest I havent tried the Bluetooth yet but the USB flash drive sounds good.

Ditto. I use this in my classic Mustang that still has the stock radio. It does the job.

I can't compare my '07 Tacoma to a classic Mustang, but it does still have the stock radio.

So, does your stock radio AM only? One of my buddies in HS (71-74) had a '66 2+2. Loved them then and still do.

I had the cigarette lighter bluetooth thing for a good 3-4 months and never had a problem with it after i found the right station to keep it on. But now i got a pioneer double din headunit and its pretty great.

I put this in my truck about 3 years ago, haven't had a single issue with it. Double check it'll work with your stereo before you buy, however, the JBL edition can be finicky with compatability IIRC. It uses the stock radios external six cd changer input as the insertion point. Steering wheel controls still work, etc. Seamless bluetooth.

Cool kit. With USB support it would be better

Agreed, it has a usb port on it for power, but not for data. Still no complaints for the price and stealthiness of it. Can't have it all.

It does. I don't drive it much, probably only 1000 miles a year in the summer. Picture below.
