I just received a letter in regards to my 2015 Toyota Tacoma about frames from 2011-2017 and CRC Coating. Anyone else with a later model get this letter today?20190912_161447.jpg

Maybe the third gens have bad frames but no ones owned one long enough to have an issue yet

It's mandatory you get the CRC it states or no frame replacement will be done

It’s like I see why Toyota did it but at the same time fuck em for using such a shitty rust preventative. CRC is nothing more than a watery noxudol which to me is garbo.

And once it goes on it’s basically not coming off until the piece of frame it was applied to rusts off with it.

I’m convinced it’s their goal to put essentially a coating that by the books fits rust preventive criteria and looks kosher, but really just makes a semi-permanent coating to hide rust so by the time your truck has fallen apart, it’s too late for replacement. Only people benefiting from this are those with preexisting horrendous rust whose frames will already fail within a short period of time with or without the coating.

I have krown do my truck every fall, but a while back I did toyotas crc as well. I got a letter for it, and told the dealer that I have it treated myself every fall and it is better than toyotas treatment. They told me I had to do the crc and have it on file, or I wouldn't be eligible for a new frame if it ever needs replacing.

To meticulous to worry about that. I'll be lucky if I keep it for another couple of years.

I see their doing the same thing they did for the later 1st gens. No crc=no new frame.

If you get the CRC, make absolutely certain that its not being applied overtop of existing rust. Sand, prime, paint etc before you take it in. It will work to prevent future rust, but existing rust will continue to fester underneath.

Most of my 2004's frame is shiny black metal under the CRC, but there are a few spots where it was applied over existing rust. Fixed one of those spots this week. Not fun. This is behind the engine skirt in the fender well. I would remove those before taking it in to ensure that area gets sprayed well. IMG_20190909_172055884.jpg

Fluid filming on top of it works great. It will keep the CRC from drying out, which is how rust will continue to develop underneath if left alone. All in all, CRC does work as it should if applied to a new frame. Imo, it is not the best solution to use on a frame with pre-existing rust.

Also, the stuff is worse than anti sieze if you get it on you. Go to turn one bolt under your truck and youre gonna look like a coal miner by the time the bolt comes out lol.

I wouldn’t bother since your frame looks like that.

I haven’t gotten the letter yet. I noticed some minor surface rust on mine (very minor). Going to put some rust inhibitor on those places.
