You are still not in a legitimate parking space. That could screw you over.

It’s ok they’re good, I know I’m over the line. Parked there every day for five years now. I’ll get more in the AM of scope and scale. I won’t deny it and didn’t deny it to them, they have the pics and we have video, there’s been no disagreements on fault. It is a much larger reach for him to be able to hit me than the close ups look as well, and in one of the pic you can see no cars around me and that was even for a couple lanes across from me. It’s why I’m so confused on how exactly he entered our lot and how he hit my truck.

hope you get it fixed. i design the layouts of the places you work at (or similar facility's) and thats one of the goals to make sure the trucks never get into those entrances.

That makes sense auskip, he had to have worked some magic to make it that far lol.

Good news on the (hopefully) lack of problems with the driveline etc, that’s what I was worried about.

Well I'm glad they are taking the fault, technically if a driver hits an illegally parked car it can be claimed that both are parties at fault or comparative fault.

Having shit like this sucks royally!

Last year, I had a drunk driver side swipe me:annoyed:. He tried to keep on going, but I chased the buttplug down horn blaring until he finally stopped:burnrubber:. Called cops, and enjoyed the sobriety-test show which ended in the full "cuff & stuff" finale:ballchain:.

The front end damage makes me think the truck either tried to swing a sharp turn around your truck, and the trailer hit you front almost perpendicularly, or he tried to back up, and didn't see your truck...still, I don't think the damage looks too severe. Hood, fenders, grille, maybe the radiator, and several support brackets.. Open the hood if you can, check for keaks or broken wires and hoses. Take a lot of pictures, including you paint (think reflection here).

What I learned from my experience....
    1. Contact the offender's insurance directly ane immediately. Start getting quotes from very reputable shops mediately on your own now to make sure you have a good understanding of extent of damage and estimated costs (shoot for 3 if you have them nearby).Turn on your truck, check out all accessories to make sure they are working properly. Visually inspect inside the engine compartment, take alot of notes and pictues.

    2. Don't fall for the "lifetime repair guarantee if you use our selected repair facilities..." crap from the other insurance guys company (Geico loves to do this). If the company is already one you chose, fine to use them, but keep in mind, the insurance company will be managing the work and have more influence with the scope. Cost, and parts used. Also, once repairs have been completed, and time passes, that cracked paint job will be harder to correlate with the original damage. BTW, push for new Toyota parts, no body filler, damage looks like that should be a non-issue, but you never know where try they'll to save $$. You have a new truck, and you should expect clean straight, unpatched parts as before the incident.

    3. Make sure you thoroughly inspect/test drive your truck before singing off on the work when completed. I had to refuse delivery due to alignment issues for my repair twice:facepalm:...the door panel alignment was very bad. For you, run a marble down the hood seams, make sure that sucker goes straight and even. Make sure to run all accessories and take note of anything that may be suspect, refer to your list from step 1 above. It's easy to forget details after a few weeks have passed.

    4. Don't settle for less than a prefect job, or one that meets your standards. Keep good records of all interactions between yourself and the insurance company. Make sure any work you agree on is in writing before it gets started. In fact, make sure you communicate in writing that the work will not proceed until written documents of work has been signed by you. This also should include changes to scope of work as well.

This may sound like a lot, but really isn't. Just stay on top of your detail lists, and double check that the repairs covers everything you feel needed to be done, and to your satisfaction.

Good luck, hopefully the insurance company will be a good one. Best of luck with your knee surgery too!

Definitely truck drivers fault reguardless, it's private property with no truck signs. I guarantee his company is going to hit him up for a preventable accident. Looks like he was probably turning around and caught you with tail swing. Atleast your damage looks to be only cosmetic.

I believe OP moved the truck in the 1st picks. If you look at post #15 he’s in a spot and just over the line into the stripes so if that’s where he was parked when it happened it’s all good.

As for all the hysteria about being illegally parked, unfortunately it’s true. My friends mom backed into an illegally parked Porsche. Dude was hysterical called the cops. When PD arrived they blamed him for illegally parking behind her and gave him a ticket. Not sure how it played out for insurance but it is real. My wife’s a lawyer and the claims she Sees are ridiculous but some can be legally backed.

Wow, a lot of emotions here...

OP claims he was parked apparently where 4th pic was taken, also claims survellance footage when hit took place. If true, no worries...moving on.

Yikes! All pics are from the same spot, truck is unmoved (edit - truck is unmoved since the incident, I am curious to see if it got bumped around a little by the semi per the video). I think so because from the other side in person it seemed sort of angled. A couple are actually screen grabs of a quick panning video I sent my wife when I went out to see it, I tried to zoom in on spots to show the truck placement after questions came, because I honestly don’t have great angles of the spot itself, didn’t mean anything by it.

I’m not trying to hide anything, I didn’t post worrying if I was screwed or not. I posted asking what I should be wary of repair wise. If they decide they’re not at fault then I file the claim with my insurance and it gets repaired. It is what it is and lessons are learned. So far they’ve been very gracious to work with and no parties are shitty.

These were a couple quick pics I grabbed on break after being notified of the damage this morning (and in shock honestly). Truck wasn’t much over the line sideways (to me), as pictured in 15. That’s what I meant by ‘breathing room’ I just thought of it that way door wise. It’s 100% technically too far forward, but I’ve parked there daily for years to avoid door dings with the poorly worded ‘breathing room’. There’s several feet of that space between the front of my truck and any sort of road or drive lane. Being into the yellows (front end wise) never honestly concerned me because the alternative was the rear of the truck/or car in the road. Yes I could park in longer or different spots, but I parked to avoid door dings for years in the last possible spot I could (and got blasted by a semi for my efforts in the end LOL). Pictures and a shitty video were taken to show my wife the damage and send to my agent and theirs of the damage. If there’s more questions it won’t be a problem because my company has a video of the incident. No worries on these fronts!

I’m not making excuses or trying to get out of anything to be called out on. I am guilty of misusing my version of breathing room, and parking further than should have. But I was just making a post like ‘hey my truck got plowed by a semi while it was parked...fml’

It’s all good guys. The truck is being taken care of and the responsibilities are all handled, no ones hurt and no ones denying or arguing anything. I appreciate everyone though!

And once again, damn, it sucks having my truck down and out :(

Also side note, would you all generally feel comfortable driving it to the body shop then?

Are You able to tell if there is any damage or leakage under the hood? If there is damage then get it towed, if there isn't then carefully take it to the nearest shop. If you cant tell then get it towed.

Nothing that I could blatantly see. Hood is crushed under the drivers side fender by the headlight and pinned down pretty hard so wasn’t able to open the hood. No obvious leak signs though. I climbed under it for just a second to see if there was anything obvious. I only got to see it for a couple minutes on break before I had to head back in, and caught a ride home from a co-worker so didn’t get to check after. I plan on riding back out there tomorrow though (I’m off).
