Ouch, and they make it so easy to not screw that up too.

Welp I bought a can of refrigerant and hooked it up to the AC line, gauge still read it as being 'full' but on the low end of full. So I'm not sure that explains why I only blow hot air in 90˚+ temps, but I filled it up a bit until it was near the top end of the 'full' on the gauge.

AC blows ice cold right now but it always does in the evenings when it's cooler outside, so we'll find out tomorrow on our 3+ hour drive through the desert if I fixed it or not lol.

I put a gauge on the Mercedes and it was reading overfilled, but blows hot. Turns out the A/C compressor was bad.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. That and the hissing noise my AC makes. But mine does blow ice cold so long as it's under 90˚ outside. So the compressor is working but whether it's working at 100% I'm not sure. Guess I'll find out tomorrow if I need to take it in later or not.

the hissing on the tacos is normal. its the expansion valve.. its not mounted outside like newer cars.

at least i think it is.. my tundra, both tacomas and my buddies 97 4runner do it

    Expansion Valve
Sometimes a hissing sound coming from the air conditioner is not a major problem. During normal operation the refrigerant, such a Freon, circulates through a system of pipes to cool the system. It compresses the gas and then expands the gas rapidly through a port called an expansion valve. In some systems the expansion of gas inside the unit will make an audible hissing noise routinely as part of the cooling process. These hisses are just a few seconds long and happen in regular intervals. They are not a cause for concern.

Compressor kicks on yeah, according to the refrigerant bottle I bought if the compressor isn't on then the gauge won't read anything or something like that. Plus I can hear it kick on. No idea on the condenser, that's something I'll have to look into

just peak through the grille. its the thing right infront of the radiator. if they get caked up with dirt and shit it kills the performance of the a/c.

How long is gas usually good for when it's stored in a jerry can? I've got one of them full of premium that's about 2 months old. I don't want to use on this trip it if it's going to fuck up my fuel system somehow.

Hm, maybe I'll put it in and fill the rest of the tank up with fresh gas so it's at least not running on just the older stuff.

As much as I don't want to risk it, I also don't want to throw away good premium fuel because, well...that shit's expensive. Unless I really should just toss it.

Oh I'll definitely be using all of it this weekend, got a ~700 mile road trip so I'll be filling up at least 3 times. Probably closer to 4 since I'll be weighed down so much.

So why are you storing gas in them at all? I always use my Jerry cans on the return portion of paved road home
