Sad I remember seeing that in the news.

 

Sad and completely aircrew error.
They flew beyond the aircraft's capability. Practicing for an airshow demo. The entire fly squadron/group/wing took big hits for unsafe practices, etc.
When I saw the original footage I knew what they had done...my Principles of Aerodynamics course from 26 yrs prior went streaming through my mind. They were too low to recover...not enough air and space between them and the ground.

 

Where was that at? A friend at work was 82nd Airborne and told me about a crash at an airshow/demonstration they were jumping at and a big plane went down. It woulda been sometime mid-80's-ish.

 

The one I posted was here in July 2010. The day I out-processed Pope AFB, NC in June 1987 a C130 crashed doing a LAPES (low altitude parachute extraction system) in front of a group of muckity mucks on a drop zone on Ft Bragg. 82nd Airborne makes me think that's the one.
