Adding Rigid scene lights - Tap into cargo light circuit help

I have a 3rd Gen. I am looking to add Rigid flush mount scene lights to my roof rack. I want them to come on with the rear cargo lights and tie into that circuit / switch. Can anyone steer me in the right direction as far as wiring these? Is it as simple as pulling power from the switch up to the lights?

Caribe is totally right, addafuse from this panel would give you a switched 12v - then you would go to a dash switch and then to your new lights.

Adding them into the Cargo light circuit would mean splicing somewhere near the light..

I can't comment on how to specifically do it for a third gen, but just tapping into the fuse won't do it. Fuse it "Upstream" of the switch. You'll have constant power if you put an add a fuse in there. You'd need a separate switch I believe. Someone feel free to correct me...

 

Hot fuse-relay pins 86 & 30. Pin 87 to added lamps. pin 85 to On & Off switch.
From switch you have 2 choices: Purple wire on the Cargo Lamp switch tap. Makes the added lamps a parallel circuit to the Cargo Lamp circuit. As it behaves just like the Cargo Lamp circuit with its own On (auto ON) and OFF switch.
Option 2 this inline switch is tapped to the Blue wire on the Cargo Switch, which makes the added lamps circuit dependent of the Cargo switch position. As even if the added lamp switch is ON, the Cargo switch also has to be ON.

So I read through this and the linked threads and I am pretty certain I understand it correctly but I just wanted to check.

I have decided to add an aux fuse / relay panel under the hood to support the scene lights as well as a light bar for the moment and allow some room for future circuits. I am going to tap into the switch and wire a relay as recommended and shown in this illustration:



However, instead of using an add a circuit to an in cab hot fuse to supply power I'll use one of the circuits created by the addition of the aux panel.

Is this correct? The add a fuse to an "always hot" circuit is only to supply power correct?

That is correct.

 

This worked perfectly. Ended up using the Amazon knockoff version. They work well and seem well made. Hard to justify the extra money for the rigid lights.

Are you able to put multiple lights to the same relay pin 87. Can I solder all the wires to the relay together? Sorry to revive a dead thread

 

The relay can handle as much amps as it's rated.
Pins 30 & 87 are the ones handling the higher amps.
Pins 85 & 86 are the coil side of the relay. ("switch")
They sell connectors meant to accommodate multiple wires.
How many wires are you planning on using? If you plan correctly, the set up should be positives in parallel, like a fork with many tines.

 

If I am imagining it correctly (correct me if I’m wrong), 4 wires to pin 87 (positive wire for LEDs). Then grounds to battery? Tap into cargo purple for switch position (ON, DOOR, OFF)

 

No need to bring the 4 wires to one location...
Ground to nearest bolt (verified by Multimeter) since the whole chassis is tied to ground. Unless you think the Tacoma is a fiberglass structure (lots here do)

 

Oh ya. so connect the 4 positives to one wire and that one wire is going to go to the 87 pin. Noted the grounding part seems simple enough.

 

Are these 4 lamps on the same side of the vehicle?
