Can Anyone Balance Tiress Correctly or Even Do Roadforce On All Terrain Tires?

So after pep boys failed 5 times at balancing my tires correctly and then deciding to go to a shop in morgantown to get the tires road forced balanced, which the shop said they couldn't do for whatever reason and said it would be fine if they put weights on the inside and outside as well. I said go ahead and planned to just paint them with black nail polish, but they still did a shitty job and my truck still vibrates at the same speeds. So all that was accomplished was the weights looking like shit and them scratching my new rims. FML!

so i went down to the toyota dealership cuz i knew they had a road force and they looked at my tires and said he didn't see why they couldn't do the road force. They are just all terrain tires (wild country xtx) and he was dissappointed that they put those weights on the outside and felt bad so i am going back tuesday morning before class to get the road force hopefully. I just pray to god they can do it....

I had the same problem. I had my BFG installed at a local shop and they screed up 3 times. Then I went to the dealership and the problem is fixed.

 

well i'm hopin this dealership is as good as yours. When they were installed they were inblanced, had pep boys do them 3 or 4 times and now this shop today did them again spin balancing still off, cuz they couldn't road force cuz they were all terrain tires???

how bad do you guys think that weight will scratch the lip of my rim? and will black nail polish fix it?

 

Originally they installed the weights on the inside of the rim, so you would not be able to see the weight. But that did not work well (it just looked good). Not really sure how to fix the scratches.

 

well putting them on the outside didn't help too much either and now they look like shit and will be scratched. Whatev, as long as toyota pulls through and can properly do it. Has anyone else had the problem of a shop saying they can't do road force balance on all terrain tires? Or can it really not be done?

 

My local Discount Tire has always been fantastic at balancing my tires for me, both my Toyo M/T and my Duratrac have come out perfect up to 75mph (the speed limit in the empty parts of the state). Pretty sure they aren't road force balanced.

 

actually, you get a better balance by using clip-on weights on the inner and outer rim. that's not the issue. the issue is the dumbass that doesn't know what he's doing at the pep boys.

if you have access to a discount tire, take it there. ..most of their locations have the hunter gsp9700 thats needed to road force balance a tire.

 

I just got my 33x12.5R15's Balanced at firestone. Along with a lifetime alignment.

The service sucks.

The wait was worse. (4hrs mount balance align)

But the end product was perfect. The roadforce balanced them with the weights on the inside to protect my new powdercoated rims without even asking. They aligned it even better. I watched the guy align it with my light racing UCA's and he was very professional. I asked me for guidance on caster and we worked it out to get everything in spec.

 

ok well its atleast good to know that they can do it with a knobby tire, now i'm even madder that they lied to me and i still wasted the money on the normal balancing which didn't do anything

 

You need to use a place that has the Haweka adapter plate for the Hunter GSP9700 (or similar) road force balancer.

Of course, even with the right equipment, an untrained/lazy operator or poor calibration can still produce a bad result.

Another factor is that some tires just suck for balancing purposes. They're glued unevenly or have too many high/low spots. Big, meaty tires can be a challenge. It's not a like a Michelin passenger tire that's probably pretty close to symmetrical from the factory.

Yes and yes. So, we have to chalk the dealership experience up to a bad operator, a improperly calibrated machine, or tires that are tough to balance.

 

yea, sometimes non-premium tires are out of round. and really shitty tires are almost always out of round. i.e. pegasus, maxis.

 

Call your nearest off-road shop! one that installs lifts. They will know where to take it.

 

well i'm going to a Glotfelty Tire Center 2moro morning since they also have the road force balancer and they think they have the haweka adapter but if they have no clue then i'm not letting them do it and just wait for the dealership next week

 

does anyone have experience with Glotfelty Tire Centers?

 

I just had my tires trued and balanced today. I have brand new duratracs and they were out of round. Plus the shop I use balance the tires while on the truck...it rides smooth as the day I got it. I have pro comp wheels and 265/75 tires.
