I wouldn't say they're gender specific. I more so see it as social constructs linked to certain types of cars.

I wouldn't be driving a Tacoma if they were gender specific ;)

My buddies with diesel trucks always make fun of me saying I drive a girls truck.

Until they try to follow me on trails then they shut up :p

It is a Jeep and Harley thing!!! Why try to copy something that is obviously not original??? Cracks me up royally when I see a Honda or other Japanese bike wave to a Harley rider and get totally ignored!!!!! You can easily hear the difference between the two from a LOOOOOONG way away. Harley drivers ignore the others.

My daughter drives a Wrangler and pretty much every one in a Wrangler waves to her, no matter if male or female. The 4 door Wranglers, if spotted ahead of time are ignored as they are NOT A REAL JEEP!!!!!!

If someone is nice enough to wave at me, I try to wave back. I don’t care about their gender or taste in vehicles. I am middle aged, so there’s that.

Oh, I'm sure being a female Tacoma driver comes with some "baggage" or whatever you want to call it. Like it or not, when I see a Tacoma, I can say with confidence that there's a very high chance that a white male is driving it, and probably a relatively young, white male.

But when I see anyone other than a young white male driving a Tacoma (lifted or not), I always think its awesome!

As for waving, I grew up in a more rural environment where we all waved at each other as a common courtesy. Mostly because there was a good chance we knew the other driver we were passing by. Now, living in a larger city (OKC), I rarely wave unless I know the person, or its just an obvious "wave" situation. So......my rural upbringing, the fact that I've driven both Wranglers and motorcycles means waving is part of my DNA. And it always makes me sad when people don't wave back.

There are so many Tacos in Arizona to wave at, but typically I wave or give a thumbs up to the built ones. Just to say ‘Yeah, I see what you got going on there’. I appreciate the creativity and vision some in the community have.

But for real, when my fiancé drives the truck, she gets all sorts of stares and waves. Seriously guys, ride passenger side and see what OP is talking about. I’ve seen guys miss green lights staring so hard.

That's odd. I love when my wife is "forced" to drive my lifted Tacoma with Ray10's and Wildpeaks. She looks like a badass, and its awesome.

May as well wave at everyone then, OP.......Tacomas aren't overly uncommon or special. I had a '68 Ford Bronco for 10 years and in that time I passed EXACTLY ONE early Bronco ('66-'77)!!!!! We both waved, but I didn't have the chance to turn around and try to catch him to BS about our rides.

Not trying to be negative, but being realistic......

I do wave at everyone. Basically all Tacomas I see (which is a lot). Hence why this response was new to me and I wanted to see a general opinion on it

Lol! This is my observation as well. I got more waves in my gen1 than my gen3 but I still try sometimes. No Taco shortage in Fla.
You keep on keeping on! Social media has killed real human interaction any more.

If a woman waved at me and my wife was in the truck with me.... I might not look happy but she knows better after 35 years.
As far as the Tacoma community, there is a difference in location as far as friendliness goes. In the city people are in a hurry, traffic is bad so no one is really happy. Just being up at our new place I can say there is a difference, not just in Tacoma people, but everyone when you get away from the daily grind and traffic.

With bad eyesight, I really keep an eye on traffic so miss waving sometimes, I don't initiate waving because of the same reason. But at least I am smiling most of the time.

No wave needed just follow them until they turn to go a different then you are. Then proceed to feel sad inside. Taco convoy?

I remember this guy that had a 1999 TRD Tacoma and seen this sexy woman that was driving a 2000 TRD Tacoma. He went and talked to her for a bit, complimented her on the truck choice, and then he asked her to go snowboarding down in Wolf Creek. I figured she would give some bullshit answer or a big no, and I was going to laugh my ass off at him. To my surprise, she said “yes”, and I’ll drive. Well, guess no laughing at his ballsy ass. Take notes.

They had a great time snowboarding, found out she liked mountain biking, animals, family values, has a great promising career, purchased her own place at 19 years old, paid cash for her 2000 Taco.

What did he do? That dumb ass put a ring on that finger 9 months later. :ballchain:

18 years later...I’m still happily married, and I’m sure she’s still regretting it.

No, I never felt like my manhood was in jeopardy. If someone does....well you can imagine what I call that sort of guy...

If I was 20 years younger....I would have at least said nice truck and seen if you liked snowboarding. :D

I live in South Georgia. ALL truck owners regardless of make/model wave at each other. Especially on the back roads.

Don’t you drive a Ford Ranger? So I guess in this case they’re right.
