Well, thanks for the recommend, it just worked great. Ran out to the driveway to try it out, game changer. Any interest in sharing some pics and info on your fan? Are you running a second battery?

I'm glad it helps out

I just run a Northstar agm group 31 currently but I'll be upgrading to a dual battery setup soon.

I have some pictures and the steps somewhere in this thread if you search for them.

I just got my GFC installed recently. Can someone explain how to install the third brake light. I searched for this info and it just confused me.

Left tail light popped out and the middle bulb is the brake, I got that lol. Where do I take the wiring from the third brake light and actually wire into the light? Thanks.

How to wire the third brake light on the GFC.

(DISCLAIMER!) This is for my 2017 3rd Gen Tacoma. Your Tacoma might be different. If you don’t have a Tacoma it will positively, probably be different.

    (1) I started by removing my rear, driver side taillight.

(Two 10mm Bolts) Circled in photos.

    (2) I then fished the wiring through the gap in the bedside.

Be patient doing this because you don’t want to risk damaging your wires.

It might help to pry the metal/plastic out a bit with a flathead screwdriver inside the bed.

If you’re lucky you’ll be able to catch them on the inside of the hole where the tail light is. If not you’ll have to reach up from the bottom and push the wires through or remove your drivers side bed box cubby if you have one.

    (3) Now that you have your wires where the taillight goes, look for the middle (egg shaped) connector. This is the connector you’re going to need to tap the two wires into.

Remove and skin back the tape on these wires a few inches.

    (4) Get a idea of how the needle wire splices (that GFC provide) work before attempting to use them.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO CUT YOUR FACTORY WIRING!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO CUT YOUR FACTORY WIRING!

Both the black and red ends on the splices are removable. Take those all apart!

The red end on the wiring will act as a swivel when you’re putting them all back together so you don’t have to twist the wiring.

    (5) Light Blue = Positive +

    White/Brown Stripe = Negitive -

    (6) Confirm the plugs Black/Red orientation is correct inside the bed. Make your connection…

    (7) Replace taillight. Don’t pinch wires.

    (8) Test it.

The light only comes on during braking wired in this orientation. It will not function as a DRL.

I hadn’t seen a write up about it anywhere before either so I decided to do one on the GFC Forum for anyone wondering. Re-posted it above to help anyone else that might search. Goodluck!

Joined the chopped roof club today! It’s a little nerve racking turning on the jigsaw, but should be worth it. I used 3/4” bolts like Zayne suggested. It was a little tricky with the thickness of my butyl tape. I found it easy to anchor the t nuts with a longer bolt, back it out and throw the 3/4” in. I used the maxxfan mini because it had a slim profile and minimal roof thickness required. I like my ceiling fan blowing on me at home, so I rigged a DPDT switch between the motor and the circuit board. Haven’t had enough time to make it look pretty, but I can change from exhaust to intake. Next is tidying up the wires and connecting it to my goal zero battery. Thanks to the two or three who posted their fan mods.

I also offset the fan location so I can remove one panel and run the fan with tent closed. (Only parked) I was considering not drilling the corners since the t nuts are visible, but I don’t mind if it’s not perfect.

Hell yeah! Congrats! You’re going to love it. That makes 4 roof choppers now that I know of!
I know what you’re staying about the screws. 1” was too long and mine still stick down because I didn’t have 3/4” at the time. If I did I would have done the same as you and squished it with a few longer ones then installed the shorter 3/4” ones.
Nice idea with the reversing switch!
Make sure you super glue that locking knob on. Mine kept falling off and I lost it for a couple weeks in the bed. Haha.

I placed an order today for a Offgrid Engineering Dual Battery Setup to help run it.

Let us now which you prefer...
    To suck or blow.:D

Why did you get a white lid and mine is black? I didn’t know that was an option.

Blow when it’s hot, suck when it’s cold.

Model 4401 is black and 4301 is white. Why there is a price difference between colors, who knows.

Where did you add the super glue? I’m trying to find a weak spot in the lock mechanism. The knob onto the shaft?

Yeah, my lock/unlock knob kept falling off on me. It wasn’t even on there when I got the thing it was just floating around in the box.
I filled it full of super glue Sunday and stuck it back on the shaft.

I’m surprised at how many people are not concerned with the composite/translucent roof. This is my major concern about this camper, so a couple questions.

    A) For those who have a camper, what are your thoughts for those who are concerned because we live in regions with a large amount UV exposure.

    B) Are you not woken up every morning by bright sunlight coming in?! Like I am all for natural light, but I also enjoy sleeping in

I love the translucent roof. Makes it feel like you're not sleeping in a cave. Zero issues thus far and lots of sun and UV at my elevation, and my truck lives outside.

It's not super bright, but it's definitely noticeable in the morning on a sunny day. Good excuse to get out and enjoy the reason you're camping in the first place. :D

Great. You’re doing better than me then because it took me at least 15min to fish those wires through the way I did. Haha.

So I'm really interested in the gfc and I'd love to see one In person. Anyone in the south east area? I live in East TN and would love to catch up with anyone with a gfc to see how it works and make sure it's right for me and the wife
