KBVoodoo with Leer HF350M

I've been researching quite a bit on what tonneau I want to get for my 2019 tacoma TRD pro. I definitely want to get the KBVoodoo rack system so I can run a roof top tent, and on their site they say that it would fit with the Leer trilogy tonneau. I've had friends with good experiences with Leer in the past, but they have discontinued the trilogy and replaced it with the HF350M.

Does anyone run KBVoodoo racks with an HF350M or know if the racks would work well with the new design? I have not been able to find much regarding this subject. I am not sure if the HF350M is similar to the trilogy, and wanted to make sure it would fit with the racks before I pull the trigger.

I've got this setup and it works well. Be aware that you WILL have to cut the LEER rails and get extra clamps from LEER to make it work. Here are some pics:

That is super helpful thank you!! Did you just use a metal saw to cut the rails? And did you order the clamps separately from leer or did you order them with your tonneau?

 

Yep, I have a friend who has a complete metal shop setup, and he cut them for me. I wouldn't want to do it with something like a hacksaw though. The rails are pretty robust. As for the extra clamps, I contacted my dealer about buying some extras and they contacted LEER. This was about 3 months after getting the tonneau. LEER sent me an entire set of clamps for free. Nice.

 

Forgot to mention that I leave the KB Voodoo crossbars attached to the RTT and just hoist the entire assembly up to my garage ceiling. Back the Taco into the garage, attach the straps, and hoist. To load the tent up, just do the reverse. I've been super-happy with this system:

 

So you got the tonneau before the bed rack? That's likely what I am going to do and cut the rails when I get the rack in. Good to know though, i've got some friends with band saws that I could get access to.

As for your garage set up that's exactly what I want to do! Good to see people who have actually done what I am thinking about without me just shooting in the dark.

Definitely going to pull the trigger on the LEER then. I've looked at other tonneaus and leer seems to have the best reviews / best quality out of the ones that work with the KBVoodoo setup.

You really simplified the whole truck camping thing.. inspirational really.

 

Simplification was my goal. I'm an amateur astronomer, and I applied some of the same philosophies I use there when figuring this system out. In amateur astronomy, many people make the mistake of buying the largest telescope they can afford. It's all about the aperture. What I've discovered though is that once you get into instruments with apertures above 8", portability becomes a huge issue. Sure, having that 11" or 14" SCT to take out to a dark site sure is nice, but a scope that large and a mount stable enough to use it with are heavy, bulky, and cumbersome. Pretty soon you get tired of lugging everything around and setting up/tearing down all of that large, heavy gear, so you don't go observing as much as you used to because it's such a huge pain in the ass. Eventually you realize that you made a very expensive mistake.

There's a saying in the hobby - "The best telescope for you is the one you actually USE." The correct balance of size and portability for YOU is key. Same thing can be said for camping setups, and that's what I was looking at here. I just knew that if loading, unloading, and storing this RTT was going to be a PITA, I'd end up not using it very often after the honeymoon period wore off. So, making it as simple as possible was my plan all along. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
