Ok guys it's been a while since I posted on here. I have a 2000 4x4 with a 5 speed. It's the 2.7L. I had to swap engines. Now with everything back in truck it still won't run. Its getting air and fuel but no fire. The engine I replaced mine with is the California code engine. Mine was the federal code engine. Could it be the computer freaking out and needing flashed or what? It's cranking strong just won't try to hit. Also how many grounds does the tacoma have? Body grounds? Any help is greatly appreciated

Free bump and...I’d change the title to something that concisely describes the problem. You’re more likely to get help from people who have expertise in this area that way. Something like “engine swap, won’t crank”.

Any auto repair shop will be able to give you a diagram/list of grounds. Or you may even find it online. If you can't find it by Monday, send me a PM and I'll get it for ya at work.

I'll let others chime in with diagnosis. Not too familiar with your model. It could be computer related. Double check firing order and also distributor position.

I have a multi meter. Was hoping for something easier before tracking down a wire problem. Where's crank sensor located? This is first Toyota I've ever owned or worked on.

I'm trying to get plugs out to check them but I don't have a socket that fits down the sleeve to pull them

Find a good spot to ground the multi meter and test each coil. You may need a spark plug socket and extension. Just sayin.

the grounds for your Engine control module should be attached under the data link connector. If I remember correctly there should be 7 brown wires on 2 separate ring terminals. I think what you are looking for is on panel #3

The ignition system changed every few years; distributor, coil, coil pack, etc. Did you replace the engine and accessories with the same system?

No. There were distributors from 1995-1997, then coil pack from 1998-2000, then coil on plug from 2001-2004 roughly.

I edited it. I meant coilpack, then coil on plug.

My truck has coil packs. This was 1998-2000 roughly. Seen below:

    527E47C0-514A-417E-AA60-4F49F4B66356.jpg

This is coil on plug, which has no normal ignition wires. Simply a standard wiring harness. 2001-2004 approximately.
