Truck has lift kit I think is not complete

This is the 2009 Tacoma 4 door 4X4.

I have installed a remanufactured rack and pinion steering unit. When I went to connect the tie rod end on the passenger side I found the lift kit had lifted the vehicle so far that the rod from the steering unit was at it limit in the swivel joint and was probably the reason for the failure of the old steering unit.

I have looked at a 2019 with a 3 inch lift and found that they had replace the front wheel bearing carrier with one that had a tie rod end arm located much higher than the OEM unit.

So my question is does anyone know where I can purchase a left and right wheel bearing carrier for this 2009 Tacoma that will correct my problem.

Otherwise I will just remove the lift kit.

@BassAckwards has his maxtrac spindles for sale. This carrier you speak of is called a spindle. Are you 2wd or 4wd?

Edit: you're 4wd, maxtrac spindles wont work for you. Let's see pics of your lift. If it's a spacer lift, yeah, get rid of that shit and get a real lift that wont fuck your shit up.

 

I'm curious as to what your current lift kit is. A list of what you have and pictures would help everyone to get you sorted out.

I guess I wasn’t clear.

I did not put the lift kit on this truck.

I have no interest in putting a lift kit on any truck if I need a bigger/higher truck I will purchase a truck to do the job not modify a light duty truck to do the medium duty job.

I called the part I was looking for a Bearing Carrier Toyota calls this part a Steering Knuckle. Toyota doesn’t list a spindle anywhere in their parts manual just the steering knuckle and a bearing/hub assembly.

I have now determined this is a spacer on top of the Shock/strut assembly.

I will remove them Monday and put this truck back in service.

If they put a spacer on top of the struts there will probably be a block in the rear between the axle and the leaf to lift the rear, if not then there might be an add-a-leaf in the leaf pack.

Before anyone wets their pants I am part time at this outfit more as a consultant than anything else.

Request for pictures or any other information will take time as I haven’t been to that truck now in 5 days.

I don’t have Internet at the shop which is located out in the Florida swamp so I get on here when I get home 43 miles away.

I will be there tomorrow 9/16 and get some pictures but I am sure that all they did was put a spacer on top of the strut. I understand there probably are spacers or added leaf to the rear as well. We removed the over sizes wheels and tires when we purchased the truck. The operation has no need for a lift on these trucks.

They work out very well in their stock condition other than the requirement for a substantial front bumper.

I removed the spacers today and that corrected more than one problem.

The first pictures were taken before removing the spacers.

The second set of pictures was taken after the removal of the spacers.

The third set of pictures is of the rear spring pack. There has been an additional leaf added to the bottom of the pack. I have elected to leave these in place.

It's a spacer lift.. only the 2 pucks are needed. One for each side.

Looks like a stock leaf pack to me, the very bottom leaf is the overload leaf. The markings and 3+1 configuration makes me think it's either a recall or TSB replacement set.

They probably used the spacer up front to offset that massive bumper. If they were that cheap, I wouldn't expect an add-a-leaf in the rear. Lift block at best.

 

That cleaner looking leaf is your overload and you have a stock tsb pack. Leave them alone. You are now at oem ride height minus pull down from the plate bumper.

That bumper is not on the truck I am working on.

We will put one on when the truck goes to off road only service.

The bumper doesn’t seem to change the height of the front of the truck.

There is a lot of stuff removed from the truck to make that bumper fit. All of the aluminum structure and some of the steel structure that supports the plastic front bumper.

We have had good luck with that bumper.

These little trucks have a lot of stamina the only real problem we have with them is the starter. We keep a spare starter because they get mud and water in them during the wet season.

FYI:

Here are pictures of a 2008 we purchased new. The rear spring have a total of 3 leafs.

The Black one a 2009 has 4 leafs I am sure we have an additional spring leaf.
