We just have limes and tequila with our salt here in Cali, so we’re pretty spoiled about keeping cars a long time in good condition. I can’t believe how bad some of those frames get in just a few years, you guys should get more time on that warranty.

Where is everyone seeing 10 yr frame warranty from? If you read that paper on the 1st standard says 3yrs/36k

Unless you meet the said yrs and location then it’s 12yrs/unlimited

Didn't Toyota try to exclude some states before and got their peepee slapped?
Didn't Toyota blame Dana for the first go-around? Wonder who the scapegoat is this time?

Right! Pretty embarrassing if you ask me. Clearly shows Toyota does not learn from previous mistakes.

4 years MD/Pa salted roads and no rust at all. I coat the undercarriage with Fluid Film around November and try to keep the frame clean during the winter.

My warning about CRC that I posted in another thread:

I see their doing the same thing they did for the later 1st gens. No crc=no new frame.

If you get the CRC, make absolutely certain that its not being applied overtop of existing rust. Sand, prime, paint etc before you take it in. It will work to prevent future rust, but existing rust will continue to fester underneath.

Most of my 2004's frame is shiny black metal under the CRC, but there are a few spots where it was applied over existing rust. Fixed one of those spots this week. Not fun. This is behind the engine skirt in the fender well. I would remove those before taking it in to ensure that area gets sprayed well. [IMG]

Fluid filming on top of it works great. It will keep the CRC from drying out, which is how rust will continue to develop underneath if left alone. All in all, CRC does work as it should if applied to a new frame. Imo, it is not the best solution to use on a frame with pre-existing rust.

Also, the stuff is worse than anti sieze if you get it on you. Go to turn one bolt under your truck and youre gonna look like a coal miner by the time the bolt comes out lol.

If my frame rusts in half sitting in the parking lot... Toyota will never get another dime from me.

Well I can’t say I’m surprised that they are sending notices out. I’ll be dumping my truck soon. Even though I sprayed my truck when I first got it, after the first winter it looked like it was 5 years old. Had the door sill rust/paint issue done right before my base warranty expired.

Confirmed that they have indeed extended the frame check/replacement up to current model year. It is good until 2027 or something like that DEPENDING ON VIN...

Looks like Toyota said f it, let’s just run the frame check for all.

Edit, it IS NOT A RECALL.

Maybe Toyota will finally get the frame right on the fourth gen.

These frame replacement campaigns on 3 generations of Tacomas are one if the main reasons why resale value is so high.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Limited frame replacements are still cheaper than fixing the problem. It’s why Toyota hasn’t changed anything.

I can’t imagine this won’t be expanded to 2018’s at some point. Regardless, I’m going to depend on myself first.

My truck is getting its first Fluid Film application next month. It would be better if I had access to a lift, but jack stands will have to suffice. I’ve read lots of posts that says it only takes an hour or two to DIY, but I don’t see how that’s possible. I plan on dropping the pro skid plate, removing all 4 wheels, and the fender skirts before I start spraying. Even if it takes me 4 hours, that’s fine, as long as my truck is protected.

It hasn’t seen a road winter yet, and the underside still looks pristine. I want to keep it that way.

I Fluid Filmed the heck out of it when I first bought it, including inside all the rubber plugs I could find. I would never do Ziebart, too many horror stories.

I haven’t gotten any sort of notice for my 2018 (as that model year isn’t listed yet). Regardless, is this CRC application from Toyota something that the dealer applies and Toyota pays for? Are we expected to pay for the CRC if Toyota says it’s needed?

I had my old ‘92 Ranger and the wife’s ‘02 Jeep Liberty Ziebarted when they were new, and had the annual resprays done for the first 4 or 5 years afterwards. When I got rid of the ranger in ‘06, it’s entire undercarriage was roasted with rust, but the body looked solid. The Jeep Liberty is basically the same right now. Can’t recommend Ziebart at all.
