My jibberish to English translator reads:

The problem is, if you dont use Toyota's CRC product, you are on your own long term.

This is true. Same story for the later 1st gens. No CRC=No new frame. However, 2005-2010 2nd gens did not need the CRC to be eligible.

Don't cheap out when doing Fluid film. Get the expensive Kellsport spray nozzle and save yourself some nerves.
It is well worth the money when you plan on keeping your truck for a few years.
The first time I used a cheap nozzle and it took me 3 times as long.

    Edit: Kellermann -> Kellsport

Oh I am sorry...it is called kellsport. Here a link
Kellsport Fluid Film & Woolwax Pro Undercoating Gun https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0070WTGZG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_C3qFDb5YJ2VXB

I first used this one tho and it is just splattering fluid film anywhere and I had to use a brush to evenly distribute it.

Too soon, too soon. You will get yours, guaranteed.

The #1 thing those cheap-ass mofos at Toyota USA grinch on is frame paint. It’s fuckin Pathetic.

My company has a fleet of Fords that see no fluid film, special treatment, or underbody washes, and even the 2005 trucks are fine. Minimal rust even after lots of gravel miles and salty winters.

My Tacoma came from the factory with rusty welds. I love my truck, but Toyota can suck the big one for giving us all extremely budget underbody paint jobs. Shame on them.

I spray my truck with FF from a cheapo "woolwax" gun. Even with my little pancake compressor at around 90psi it sprays even and has great coverage. I don't think you need to spend $100 on a gun, my $40 one works great for me. I just did my undercarriage last week. I spray it everywhere I can reach in my tundra. Not just the frame but also suspension components, back side of body panels, bed underside, trailer hitch, every nut and bolt underneath, inside the "dog leg" area in front of the front door, engine bay, firewall....
I also cut a rubber hose , that I slide on the gun tip to reach areas that I can't get to with just the gun

Effin' hilarious that Toyota still can't get their Tacoma frames right after 20 years. Doubt I'll ever buy another Toyota after this. What's the point of having an engine/transmission that lasts forever if the frame collapses in a couple years? Toyotas are known for being low maintenance, yet the frames seem to be extremely high maintenance

Frame is fine, it is the coating that is the issue.

Just ground mine for slider welding, the black stuff comes off like water based paint on tile.

I bought my 03 SR5 2.7L 4wd new after searching for the model I wanted to replace my 85 toyota pickup. Got an offer in 08 of $12,500 from Toyota to buy it back. Since the 08s were hard to find and the price base started at $21,000 I kept my beloved yoda. In 2009 I got the CRC letter and had the Toyota reccomended CRC applied and frame warranty extended to 15 years from put in use date. Shortly after the warranty expired the frame failed inspection. I have replaced frame sections and applied Corroseal rust converter, paint and fluid film inside and out in the hope of extending frame life. If I knew CRC would have done this I would have treated my yota frame like I did my 1977 Jeep J10 (Gladiator) quadratrac and kept it sprayed with used motor oil. Back then I was not environmentally friendly.

So I've been looking at picking up a used Jeep lately. Toyota has nothing on Jeep in the frame rust department. The difference seems to be Toyota backs theirs up somewhat.

Toyota has made a few improvements, like putting a waxy coating in the boxed sections of the frame, and a rubber sealer in the double-wall sections of the frame.

So my question is what changed in 2018 on so as those years were not included ?

Different steel supplier other than China Drywall Inc. ?

12 years IMO doesn't cut it and frame coverage for 3/36000 is a joke.

Hasn’t had enough time for the rust to set in in earnest.

There is no mysterious problem they are working to solve. Tacoma’s are the cheapest mid-size on the market and they keep ‘em cheap by using shitty paint where no one looks.

The science of painting is well understood by humanity. We paint ships and planes and submarines successfully. Toyota specifically chooses to do a sub-standard job. They could make the frame paint job bulletproof if they wanted to. They are not trying to solve a mystery regarding rusting frames, they are purposely doing a poor job to increase profits or keep production costs down. It’s the price you pay for buying an inexpensive Tacoma over the much higher priced Ranger for instance.
