    Depends if it has the California Emissions package

    The California Package has a Air Fuel Sensor and O2 sensor.

    The Non California has 2 O2 sensors .

    At least when it was sold the first time

    I think Toyota calls the upstream one an Air Fuel Sensor. My truck isn't a California truck either, and that's what the part was called when I replaced it.

    You should have one o2 sensors and one air/fuel sensors. Air/fuel is forward of cat or upstream and o2 is after cat or downstream. The sensors can degrade over time which will effect performance and gas mileage. The typical code is P0135 I believe. If you replace them do all of them.

    (I corrected my mistake of 2 o2 and 2 air fuel as 1st gens have 1 of each, but verify :) )

    Sadly I seem not to have the dual exhaust on my 2000 either

    I still only see two unless your can`t decide if you have the Automatic or Manual Transmission or want the universal one without a plug

    Looks like 1 upstream and 1 downstream. I have 4 on my 2014 and my 2008 trucks. My 2003 has 2. Replace both.

    Why replace both? I just did my upstream, but I didn't do the downstream.

    The upstream is air fuel sensor, the downstream is an oxygen sensor. Its good practice to replace both at the same time. They tend to effect performance as they age and doing both will make sure the system is operating optimal without one trying to compensate for the other being weaker. The downstream is less money too.
