Oil Leak

    Changed my oil today and discovered I have a leak. Thinking its from my front main seal. And only 95,000 miles. Anybody else have this? Opinion if its something besides the main seal?

    Nope and I check regularly. Hope it doesn't change.

    You gonna fix it or just top off?

    Did you change it or Jiffy lube (if 3rd party maybe they spilled?)

    I hate oil leaks. I’ll probably have it fixed. Probably more than I can handle though, so $$. I change my own oil, so I know it wasn’t caused by a spill.

    I had the front main seal go on mine about 2 months ago. Went to an auto parts store, picked up the new seal and swapped it on it about an hour. My leak looked very similar to yours, but not quite that bad yet. Easy to do if you're mechanically inclined. Under $20 in parts.

    Edit: Was at a around 80k miles.

    Hmm. I my have to research a bit more. Might be something I could handle then.

    Seeing as rubber on crank pulley is swollen and coming apart I would look at that crank seal while it's running and see if its leaking.

    Get some brake cleaner and and clean around crank real good then run it with a flashlight on it, maybe have someone give it some revs and see if its leaking.

    Pads, rotors, ujoints, 5900K Super White Xenon HID Halogen Bulb Fog Light
    Clean it good, add flour dusting and look for wet spots after a quick stop and go drive.

    Front main leaks more on hard stops

    So cars with transverse mounted engines' crank seals only leak on hard turns?

    Leak more in turns. Not only. The pulsing pressures and violent air currents can sling oil at the seal and it can leak that way in combination with turns.

    IvanhoeTaco, cleaning things up to try and figure out where the leak is coming from and see what you mean about the crank pully rubber. Now wondering if I should replace it too while I'm at it.

    If I get an oil leak, I don’t think I would ever know. My undercarriage looks like a fluid film bomb went off. I just spray it again last week.

    easiest oil leak to fix, buy a 1/2 mini impact gun or borrow one. fits in there perfectly, pop the old seal out, new seal in and your done. had mine done in 30 minutes.

    I'm confident I can replace the seal now, but now wondering if I should replace the pulley since the rubber looks like its deteriorating.

    I believe I have the same oil leak on mine at 160k. Thanks for posting this because I also need to do a serpentine belt as well.
