My brother in law worked for GM at the time and told me exactly what the price per hour for warranty versus non-warranty there was. I told the person who told me it was the same that I got that information from someone who worked for GM and said "gee, how about I lay down and let you piss in my mouth while I'm at it?"

If it were me I would have taken the then new truck back the next day and told them to keep it until the vibration was fixed. If they refused I would have not racked up 30,000 miles, I would have taken it to a different dealership early on to look at it until it was fixed. But thats me............

The vibration, even with the engine light, and at this moment with a bent piston rod, it still very subtle. If that engine light hadn't come on, we wouldn't even be this far. A dealership will not rip apart a car for a phantom without indication there is something wrong beyond standard deviation. I have complained about it everytime I have had the truck serviced and at this point, that may be the critical piece that fixes this.

Nah, I mean I found out the rates from my brother in law and then told the service manager at GM who lied to me what I had learned from a GM employee earlier that week, then said the line about did he want to piss in my mouth too

the whole story sounds like madness, no way you can get a bent rod and bad gasket from imaginary water getting into the engine, if you have the check engine light code post it so we really have an idea what might be going on, or take it to AUTOZONE they will check the code for free

Yeah, I told my father I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Staying cool and calm until Toyota says their side and sort of ignoring the dealership and letting the truck stay parked until Toyota says what is next. I will be getting the code from the Toyota CSR and all written history on the vehicle Monday.

how can a qualified Toyota Tech think that water getting into the engine will cause a bent rod? just by getting a 2nd opinion you can easily disprove the whole fairy tale

They keep saying this is the only way to cause a bent rod

I would think some kind of castastrophic mechanical issue like a camshaft issue not imaginery water intrusion thru the air filter? would only cause the engine to bog out and maybe stall out

when we have something like this happen, the first thing is looking for a wet filter. if its dry, typically we either get told to do the tear down or a rep will come look at it first... never have we deined a engine right off the bat because "oh it had to of taken on water" besides, how can they know the rod is bent if they havnt done a tear down? could just be a blown headgasket causing it to run bad. See what the rep says, usually unless theres clear evidance there was water in the intake, they'll just have them tear the motor down and you'll get a new short block, maybe heads (toyota doesnt send out long blocks for whatever reason)

The engine has never stalled, never bogged out. The most it has ever had is a slight vibration.

So the tech today said he thought the filter looked like it had been wet on the bottom of the air filter. I said if that is the case why wouldn't the top of the filter where there water would have to go through not be wet? He said he didn't know. They changed the oil on this truck three days before making this determination and left that same filter in. Does that make any sense to you?

I have spent the past two months reading here about the Bilstein 5100's I just bought and was hoping to have installed on Tuesday after the HS AAL's I ordered arrive on Monday. I've been nonstop reading about Duratracks, Generals, and KO2s. 285/75r16 or 265/75r16. I watch every vlog, every damn thing, and no, I haven't interacted till this truck that I work my ass off for seems to be in a crazy pickle. This seemed like the right place to get help when I really needed it.

Personally to me it sounds like a tech that doesn’t want to do the job. More money in it if it’s customer pay. And an used engine is the quickest way to deal with this. Charge 19 hrs to put a used engine in in one day. Instead of the weeks long process of warranty rebuild of your engine.

    Working on them
It would take quite a bit of water in the cylinder to cause a bent connection rod, a total blow out of a Head gasket dumping a lot of coolant in at once (unlikely) or you would have to drive thru a very deep water crossing to pull a significant amount of water in and it would seriously stop the engine just like that in most cases and sorry that little puddle story just don't fly and I would not want that so called mechanic who said that even near a kid's toy car yet alone a real machine..... I have driven thru water as deep as 12 to 16 inches several times and not worried about doing so. Hopefully the Toyota Rep will sort things out and I would consider a different more knowledgeable Dealer to perform the work.

@CaptainKohler see what the rep says. Most of the reps are good people. They should take care of it
