    after talking to others and some professional mechanics i’ll be using redline 75w90 after my break in miles are done. So my question is to anyone using a full synthetic that’s similar how often are you changing the diff oil?


    or should i just go by OEM standards in the manual???

    I’ll be switching to full synthetic 140-250 once I drive into Africa next winter, it all depends on how hot it this and how heavy you are. Our truck weighs 6,500 lbs empty and when loaded up will peak at probably 7,300

    I recommend 85-140 and change it every 100k. If you run 75-90 then I would change it more often.

    I think the severe duty recommendation is every 15k, so very 30,000 is not unreasonable

    i see redline has. 75w140, what’s the difference between that 90 and 150 i was recommended?

    Installed gears yesterday! Never made it over 14.5 mpg with stock gears (and 33" tires)20190914_075055_HDR.jpg . First little trip with economical driving and I'm supper happy. I'm going to wait 500 or 1000 miles before hard accelerating.

    New here,

    I have been trying to sift through this thread but am still new to all this Taco mod stuff. I have a 2018 TRD Sport with 275/70R18 tires and a 6” BDS lift. Currently trying to drive interstate consistently wants to downshift to 4th running 3000rpm constantly and will not stay in 5th. My MPG is pretty bad in my opinion at 14mpg now but cannot remember what it was before with stock. I’ve been told by the place who did my lift that a regear with 5.29 would really improve the gear hunting and MPG. From all the videos and posts discussing these gears I’m pretty convinced this will help me out tremendously as well. I also have an OVtuner ordered hopefully shipping next week that might also help. I am just looking for some opinions on all this with my set up and how regearing with 5.29 will hopefully improve the performance and MPG of my taco. Thanks for the help!     OVTune will probably help you out a ton. You are not running a ton of weight or a significantly oversized/heavy tire, which is what the regear will MOSTLY help with. It will most likely help to some degree, but I am not sure how much. Your style of lift is not one I have much familiarity with, so I am not sure if you are facing some significantly decreased aerodynamics or not.

    I have 5.29s on 33s [originally] and 35s [now] as well as a ton of weight/armor/lack of aerodynamics. I found the gears to be helpful in maintaining my previously elusive 6th gear at highway speeds.

    5.29s will be a big help. Anything thats not stock will like 5.29s

    is it weird that i just got 5.29s installed and drove it home tonight for the first time (85% freeway driving for 50 miles) and didn’t really notice anything different? granted i stayed driving very slow at 55 to 63 the whole way and it was mostly flat....

    maybe the latest ovtune is that good that gears aren’t super impressive? or does the fun really come after the 500 mile break in???

    Lol i felt the same way, but it is noticeable when I actually pay attention to it and when I gun it after the break in period. But yes OV tune is a major improvement over factory.

    I was thinking of going back to the stock tune and drive it around a bit so I can appreciate the gears more, then eventually try out the 4.88 2.0 beta since the 5.29 tune isn’t out yet.
